Kampot Expat Woman Attacked by Bag Snatchers at Midday (UPDATED)
Re: Kampot Expat Woman Attacked by Bag Snatchers at Midday (UPDATED)
I don't want to blame the victim, but an expat woman riding home alone on dark roads at 3:30 a.m. does not seem safe to me.

Even in small towns in any European town a lone female out in the early hours is just looking for trouble.

Oh please stop your virtue signalling it’s cringeworthy.Grand Barong wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 8:42 amIt's a sad reflection on society that you think a lone female out in the early hours is "looking for trouble"
If my young daughter was out at that time she’d be grounded for a year.
It’s just common sense not to put yourself in danger. It’d be the same for a 50yo guy who was so slashed he could barely keep his moto upright.
If he was mugged and someone said “You had it coming mate” what would you say? Yes, no white night coming to his defence.
These young woman are adults and should use basic common sense.

Women of all ages should have a safe right of passage home after a late night out, but obviously not in your eyes..
"Virtue signalling"? lol look up the definition mate, your attempts to sound like some type of intellect using this ridiculous phrase is just embarrassing.

Just saying, when in Rome act like the Romans.
Both male and female locals don't go out past 12 by themselves, you're hard-pressed to see it after 10.

Unfortunately it is not safe for any women and this is a sad reflection on society. The safety of women is a world wide problem that is eventually in the process of being addressed.
There is a lot of literature on the subject eg:
Gender-based violence (GBV) or violence against women and girls (VAWG), is a global pandemic that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime.
The numbers are staggering:
35% of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence.
Globally, 7% of women have been sexually assaulted by someone other than a partner.
Globally, as many as 38% of murders of women are committed by an intimate partner.
200 million women have experienced female genital mutilation/cutting.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a pervasive public health issue and global human rights violation that transcends cultural and economic boundaries. The World Health Organisation reports that one in three women worldwide experience physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime.1 One in ten girls under 18 (approximately 120 million) worldwide have experienced sexual assault or other unwanted sexual acts.2 Humanitarian emergencies exacerbate pre-existing violence and, in some cases, present new forms of GBV. For example, in a recent study in South Sudan, 65% of women and girls reported experiencing physical and/or sexual violence.3 Gender-based violence not only impacts the physical and psychosocial well-being of those directly experiencing violence, it also harms others, including survivors’ children, and can have wider-reaching harmful effects on the social fabric of communities.
