Of the new infections, how many are of the Delta variant?
Always "hope" but never "expect".

September 26, 2021
Siem Reap’s super spread of Delta Variant of SARS-CoV-2 identified

The events leading up to Siem Reap declaring an extended period of almost total lockdown of the province took place in the Samaki market.

The market, located in Krong Siem Reap, is is the second biggest daylight vegetables and fruits market with a lot of produce being brought in from Thailand by truckers who stop along the way at Battambang and one or two other provinces before the truck, a virtual supermarket of fresh produce, end its journey in Siem Reap.

The truck drivers who arrive at Siem Reap had been tested at the border international entry gates but yet still managed to pass on the virus, especially the Delta Variant of SARS-CoV-2 as well as the normal Alpha variant to vendors, their families and through them, a cycle of contraction to other vendors, their families and shoppers.

As a result, Siem Reap began detecting up to 200 COVID-19 positive cases per a day and a surge in Delta variant infections.

An investigation in Siem Reap confirmed Khmer Times earlier reports of Truckers and their assistants from Thailand as being the main source for the spread of the virus rapidly that the city and now almost the entire province had to be shuttered.

The Director of Provincial Information Department, Liv Sokhon told Khmer Times that since the lockdown was initiated on 17 September, the provincial authorities investigation into the rapid surge of the COVID-19 virus among its population confirmed the suspicions.

“After unloading the produce, they normally spent a day or so with the vendors and unknowingly, being asymptomatic, they did not turn up positive with rapid test kits but the virus was already at work, jumping from them to the local vendors and from them to their families and to the next vendor and families multiple times.

“When the trucker returned to Thailand, he was detected positive for COVID-19, information obtained by us revealed. The source of the spread was Samaki market and the reason for this is the truck drivers were symptomatic,” he said.

He added the decision was made when between 40 to 50 percent of the province showed marked increases in COVID-19 cases, along with Delta Variants which now stands at more than 350 cases as of September 24.

I can't be arsed to look it up somewhere. Why is Cambodia buying Chinese vaccines? Most people know the efficacy of the Moderna and Pfizer jab is much higher. Is it a cost per dose issue or availability?
