Ursids Meteor Shower on Dec. 22 and 23

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Ursids Meteor Shower on Dec. 22 and 23

Post by Francis »

When was it you last looked at the stars ???
On December 22 and 23 the Ursid Meteor shower is at its peak and you can expect between 10 to 100 (rarely) shooting stars per hour.
All meteor showers have radiant points, the area in the sky in which the shower appears to originate. The radiant point of the Ursids is the Little Dipper asterism in the constellation Ursa Minor, also known as the Little Bear, hence the name of the shower. The shower will coincide with a new moon, creating good conditions for those watching in the northern hemisphere (you can't see it from the southern hemisphere)

You also can find it here (online planetarium)....just look for Ursa Minor

Important: Best time to watch is between 2 and 4 a.m

There are also several applications available for Android phones that help you to find the "Little Bear"

So grab your lady, show her some shooting stars and make a wish.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist
