Vun Van has advanced to the finals of the T54 100-metre race in Tokyo, making him the first-ever Cambodian to reach that stage at the Paralympic Games.

Van reached the finals after placing second in his group in the first heat of the T54 100m race, according to Cambodian sports officials. The races were held yesterday at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.

Van recorded a time of 14.39 seconds and finished second behind Athiwat Paeng-Nuea of Thailand (14.00). Van also broke his previous record- 15.44 seconds, according to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia.

Yang Liu of China (14.47) finished third, followed by Jaenal Aripin of Indonesia (14.53), Luke Bailey of Australia (14.55) and Esa-Pekka Mattila of Finland (14.71).

Only the first two from each heat and the next two fastest runners advance to the final around, according to the tournament rules.
