This looks very much like the pictures of americans leaving Saigon almost 50 years ago. What a striking resemblence!
Sure, it's not like the photographer wasn't aware of that when he was taking the shot. The Kabul photo is apparently the US Embassy though, while the Saigon one was airlifting USAID personnel from an apartment block many of them lived in.

I put up a wonderful YouTube definition of ignominious by a wise old man with a beard (of course)
but it was too cruel, despite being totally applicable.

Let's just leave it at "embarrassing". the mildest use of the term.
