This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! And that was it. Thanks for all the fun. Thanks for YOU enjoying an eclectic movie selection. Thanks for all the fun over the last 12 years and the Better Movies we could screen In Phnom Penh, compared to the ordinary cinemas. This was it. Good bye. The Flicks has officially closed. Forever.

I like that they used a meaningful movie title to say goodbye.
That's a classy final line.

What a shame. Another institution gone. For so long now many familiar expat landmarks have bitten the dust, due not only to the pandemic but also the encroachment of our unsavoury neighbors. A place that was once so vibrant, eclectic and pure fun is being reduced to a soulless, generic and frankly boring town. The party is definitely over.

To be honest, I thought that it had passed its use by date quite some years ago, even though I used to stay in that street and eat at the restaurant associated with the cinema. Even though run by volunteers it struggled and struggled for too long.

Agreed. It might have been a nice spot near Martini twelve years ago, but once the first Legend Cinema opened like 7-8 years ago (?) at City Mall, it was pretty much game over. The whole non-profit thing was a bit weird too. Wasn't the owner asking women to stay rent free or something? Sounded more like free labour to me. It was nice that they played more obscure movies, but with the internet becoming more affordable and prevalent, they became obsolete some years ago imo.

Amazing to see Martini has remained empty for so long. I wonder what the flicks will be reincarnated as? Or will the plot lay empty for years to come?.......
The rents there must be sky high.
