Man Beaten Up for Menacing Monks at Wat Chas
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On the night of August 6, 2021, in Sangkat/Khan Chroy Changvar, in front of the Wat Chas pagoda along the riverside, a 30-year-old man named Nuth Sitha, also called Mov, became violent towards the monks in the Wat Chas pagoda after he had taken drugs. The suspect threatened the monks and the villagers with a knife and said he would burn down their houses. These threats upset the local people, who grabbed the man and beat him up a bit to prevent him from hurting others.
Then the police were called to ease the situation and detained the suspect. The suspect had a previous history of violence and drugs, which led to his detention and rehabilitation, but he was released shortly afterwards.
