District Governor Moved to Weather Ministry Due to Corruption Scandal

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): The former Muk Kampul district governor of Kandal province, Tong Sivmey, has been removed from his position and transferred to the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology; he was replaced by Yi Yen, the former Lavea Em district governor, in accordance to the decree from the government.

This event occurred due to public scandals caused by Tong Sivmey, who openly sold off the excavated soil covering 54 hectares of land, from a public project at Baek Khaom lake using the taxpayers' money, and kept the profits for himself. The excavated soil was sold for 30,000USD per hectare.

This scandalously blatant theft created a lot of outcry from the public, so, as a result, Tong Sievmey was removed from his post as Muk Kampul district governor, however, he was not arrested or punished for his crime, but was offered a different post in the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.
