Dog Thieves Arrested After Police Chase Suspects Carrying Black Dog

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On July 16, 2021, in Khan Boeung Keng Kong, Phnom Penh, 2 suspects were caught red-handed while stealing dogs from the neighborhood. The thieves were identified as Vet, a 43-year-old, and Sna, a 30-year-old man, who live near the Steung Mean Chey bridge in Khan Mean Chey.

The suspects were spotted driving a red Suzuki motorbike, carrying a large black dog with a metal wire and leash attached. The police became suspicious and called the men to stop for a routine check, but they refused to stop, which led to a chase by the police from the Phsar Doeun Thkov roundabout up to the Khmer-Soviet Hospital on Street 187, Sangkat Tomnup Teuk, Khan Boeung Keng Korng, where they got arrested.

Both of the suspects were detained and sent into custody in Khan Chamkar Mon police station for further investigation.

Quite certainly could be. It's not like the police actually take a hard line with thieves. They're back out on the street within 10 minutes of taking the photo of the arrest.

More dog thief arrests:

July 27, 2021
2 members of ‘dog meat’ gang nabbed in Phnom Penh
2 men were arrested after a large gang of thieves were observed stealing dogs in Phnom Penh last night.

Earlier, the gang had been seen in Bak Kheng stealing at least 5 dogs and stashing them in sacks.

After Chroy Changvar district authorities saw them, they gave chase and arrested 2 men as they tried to escape to Prek Leap.
Unfortunately, many other members of the gang reportedly escaped along with the animals they had stolen.
