Each to their own I guess but 172 wouldn't be my choice for a ruby, especially with some of the clientele sitting outside, in close quarters. Not sure why you had to settle for local food when there's plenty of other curry houses in close proximity.

I jumped on the bike last night around 9pm, it was a very quite evening, decided to head over the Monivong bridge to Toul Tum Poung and have a look at Emaan's Kitchen. I followed the direction from Google maps the place being on street 456, it is but on the opposite side near Bamboo pizza.

On arrival I was greeted by the boss, who is a jolly guy and a very politely spoken, when chatting about what to have on the menu! He then recognized me by name, from the many food panda orders that I had made over a time, and not being difficult because my orders would be mostly of the same dish "beef Palak", firstly, food panda is a little limited on its menu, secondly, the "beef Palak" is a amazingly very nice meal indeed. The dish is well prepared giving the meal lots of balance between its ingredients and the spices, the beef is of chunky cuts that are so tender will seem to melt once inside ones mouth. There's no shortage of freash spinach ether with a little bit of oil around the edges. But be careful if you try the dish at sometime, look out for the small green chilly peppers camouflaged in with the vegetable, the curry has a very good kick.

Still I was going to order and takeaway, but the restaurant is very clean with ambient music and good Wifi. I will certainly dine in at another time.

I asked if it was possible to have something maybe made that I was fancying, but was not actually on the menu, I asked if it was possible to have keema Palak, the reply was most certainly. I ordered a starter chicken shami kebab along with paratha and rice, overall could be quite filling.

Overall the meal was excellent, the starter of Chicken Shami Kebab was a absolute delight in texture and taste fusion, each mouthful left me with the question too myself "what spice am I tasting now". What can I say about the main dish! Wow you have got to belive it, this is not just Pakistani food, This is fine well prepared, excellently cooked full of flavour and a little on the spicy side, this I can honestly tell you is the best Pakistani food dishes I have had the pleasure of eating in the city of Phnom Penh. Adding to this, I had mentioned that I was looking for the food I was used too, with continues consistency, and considered that of traditional curry dishes. Well members and readers of the Curry Club I know we all have our opinions and that of different tastes, but I can now say that I have now found what I have been looking for. :hattip:

I’m not sure why you think we had to settle for anything local- the Punjab is where the other half likes. It’s not like we were planning on sitting with the clientele of other restaurants.
As it happens, the Punjab is another casualty of COVID restrictions. So we ended up going elsewhere. With a two year old in tow, the idea of going testing other curry restaurants was low on the list.

Freightdog you had been the first to reply to my post on this thread, quoting the black chicken of far away lands of Sri Lanka. I remember simular from my visit there many years ago, curry being of that south Indian influences, use of coconut and thin in consistency not like the northern Indian and Pakistani dishes. Nevertheless Sri Lanka boasts a very good tasty curry.
John Bingham mentioned Taste Budz on street 282, I still have yet to visit.

The Punjab is not a bad choice in that part of the city, and they offer good value for money, I have been on numerus times with my partner due to recommendations of the restaurant from expats on this thread, and too my partner took a liking to the food, and I must say she is not that of a big Indian curry fan, she prefers her own countries Khmer dishes.
I also found the food at its best when the boss of the place was around, but that is not always possible because he is a lecturer at one of the main universities in Phnom Penh. I know him and he is a member too on this forum site. We too have not visited in sometime, due to "yes", they are like many others a casualty of Covid, but also the clientele sitting outside had a disagreement between themselves, and a scuffle soon followed. but it was of a bad takeaway meal I ordered and collected that mainly topped it off for myself. But don't get me wrong, due to many dishes from many restaurants have been a let down in the past, I don't give up on them because of the fact, it could be said that people are not all perfect every day. In the dish on offer I look at the authenticity of the food, and its quantity of ingredients and combination of taste, and obviously the value for money. Many restaurants will differ from each other on the facts I have just wrote, some establishments will be that of a chain, meaning one owner has several restaurants and not only in the city of Phnom Penh, but that of other cities in Cambodia. I also have found these days I am known to some of the restaurants of being a bit of a critic, but this is only on a personal level for what I am looking for in a good curry dish. I am not there to advise anyone to go to this and that restaurant because they may have or not have the best food. We all have probably our own favourites and being individuals have that of our own tastes. All I can say is hope to see some of you at times on my quest of finding that outstanding curry in the big city or behond. Happy eating journeys to you all.

Tonight's meal was delivered by food panda, but then again this is not an odd method for me. I had popped out in the early evening to buy a few supplies, you could say niceties really, a good sized durian from road 1 where there are plenty of carts setup along the roadside, good value at the moment at 15,000reil per kilo. Small loaf of bread and fresh cakes with a few ice creams to eat has afters, the refreshing cool tastes following some of my ordered hot curries. It's still very rare of me to travel out these days, what with the Covid19 virus and now the imposed curfew once again. I find overall it's better to stay indoors and become some kind of unapproachable hermit in one sence or another. I can't help to think of my surrounding's has several police officers came to try and take one of the five possitive tested Covid19 victims in my apartment building. "Try was the only word" because the main entrance door was bolted shut, the police left now with only the power of words, the sick guy refusing to go anywhere. The police were well equipped with restraining items, net and poles with a neck leach at it's end, intended on keeping the infected victim at a safe distance. The guys wife was now shouting back at the police, she recently been cared for at the facilities at Koh Pich, coming home for her own needs and self treatment of Covid19. Its seems the police weren't fully equipped "lack of raincoats" because when it started to rain they all left.
When you see such things taking place it makes me wonder what control do the authorities have over the Covid19 situation. But now we have another imposed curfew for two weeks, thinking it could turn out longer. The people in charge must be seen to do something that may stop the new delta variant taking hold in the country. I would think possible that it's too late in the day, boarders should have meant closed when it was first announced, not only part closure has it turned out.
One good thing is my food delivery guys had not been beaten by sticks at the roadblocks this time round.

Yes I know I added a few chips.

How are the cutlets? Better than a veggie samosa?

They are just a change Frank from the norm! But on the otherhand they are more expensive then a veggie samosa, but well tasty.
The best starter so far, has to be the Chicken Shami Kebab from Emaans, again it should be something a little special at $6 a portion. :beer3:

Freightdog get yourself on food panda and treat those tastebuds of yours, anticipation is good for your appetite if the food is sure to follow. I look forward to reading about your curry here.

Curry King in Toul Kork is also a solid choice; ordering via Nham24 & no disappointments so far.
