Cambodia Airways successfully completes shipping mission of medical supplies donated by gov’t to Vietnam on July 19. Cambodia airways
The Kingdom on July 19 dispatched nearly 10 tonnes of medical supplies via Cambodia Airways to Vietnam, in a spirit of solidarity to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The national flag carrier said the items were packed into 1,125 cartons and shipped on an Airbus A320 aircraft, from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City. The logistics of the consignment were arranged by Ministry of Health secretary of state York Sambath.

In a press release, the airline said the plane reached Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City after 40 minutes of smooth flying.

The Vietnamese government representatives warmly welcomed Sambath and her delegation at the airport in a handover ceremony.

“The flight then returned to Phnom Penh International Airport at 10:40am on the same day, with Cambodia Airways having completed the task of transporting the medical supplies successfully,” the company said.

The medical supplies delivered by Cambodia Airways included one million facemasks along with 100,000 N95 masks and 100 oxygen concentrators.

Besides medical supplies, the Cambodian government donated $200,000 and Cambodian Red Cross president Bun Rany HE provided another $100,000.

Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) president Men Sam An also donated $50,000 from the VCFA through the Vietnamese embassy in Phnom Penh to help fight Covid-19 in Vietnam.

Prime Minister HE emphasised that the assistance was an expression of the spirit of cooperation and solidarity between friendly neighbouring countries as they fight against Covid-19 together.

Cambodia Airways said it was entrusted by the government to take up this important task because it had extensive experience in operating special flights for senior government officials and cargo transportation.

The airline said that in the past it had completed flights for government VIPs and transporting medical supplies from Cambodia to China, South Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, East Timor, Indonesia and other countries.

The company has established a good relationship with the Cambodian government based on trust and long-term cooperation, which has laid the foundation for the future development of the airline.

“As the wings of Cambodia, Cambodia Airways will continue to serve the Cambodian people and government, and continue to contribute to the economic and cultural exchanges between Cambodia and the international community, as well as the prevention and control of epidemics,” the statement read.

HE also sent a letter to Cambodia Airways expressing his gratitude and appreciation for their transporting medical equipment to Vietnam on July 19.

“The royal government would like to sincerely thank Cambodia Airways for sponsoring a humanitarian flight to transport 1.1 million face masks and 100 oxygen concentrators to fight Covid-19 as a donation from [Cambodia] to [Vietnam],” he said.

Cambodia has also provided supplies like face masks to countries such as Laos, Myanmar, Timor-Leste and Nepal to help them fight Covid-19.
