Chinese Quarrel Turns to Tragedy on Mekong River Boat

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On July 19, 2021, at 11:20 pm, along Preah Sisovath Blv., Sangkat Phsar Kandal 1, Khan Don Penh, a Chinese couple was witnessed arguing on a tourist boat on the Mekong river, which ended in the girlfriend jumping off the boat into the river and disappearing.

The boyfriend jumped in after her to rescue the woman, but failed. The boat owner tried to rescue both of them, but the girl had apparently sunk, making it impossible to find her in the water in the dark night. In the end, only the boyfriend was rescued and taken back to shore.
The Khan Daun Penh police continued searching for the victim, while the Chinese man was taken home by his family.

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The body of a drowned woman, found floating near the east point of riverside in village 2 Chroy Chongva district, is believed to be that of a Chinese woman who jumped into the river from a boat 2 nights ago and disappeared, presumed drowned.

The woman's body was found at around 10:30 am on July 21, 2021, but has yet to be formally identified by her boyfriend or family. Police are still investigating.
