Travelling with kids

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Travelling with kids

Post by Phnom Penh Pal »

For kids, travel is a form of learning. It helps children become more flexible and adaptable. They'll learn that whilst we might look different we all have the potential to be human, humble and hungry. So it's a way to have contact with other cultures and food. Meeting people less fortunate than ourselves. The self - development from problem solving means coming across difficulties and showing resilience. Travel will ignite a child's sense of curiosity, imagination and sense of adventure.

But what about schooling? That's where the parent has to be the teacher. You can take spreadsheets and pencils in a folder and a couple of kids laptops like the ones with 40 odd activities on it like the one below. After several weeks of using those you could give them away to charity and purchase new ones. It'd be easier if you were travelling with a group of kids because of the group and pair activities. The kids learn so much from their peers. Me personally I like to teach my kids cryptic puzzles and logic puzzles like the fox, the chicken and the grain.
