Floating Body in Kandal: Arrest for Murder and Car-Jacking

Cambodia News, (Kandal): On the night of July 10, 2021, the body of a man in a bag was found floating in the river in Takhmao City, Kandal Province.

The victim, Chan Kien, 50 years old, was the leader of a contemporary band living in Otumpor village, Kampong Chhnang province, who disappeared on the night of June 27, 2021, while he was driving his black Tacoma car, license plate Kampong Chhnang 2A 2626.
After the disappearance, the family and members of the contemporary band reported the fact to the police.

On July 8, 2021, the authorities of Kampong Chhnang province concluded the investigation of the murder case, leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
Khov Ly, Provincial Police Commissioner, with the coordination of Mr. Ith Sothea, Prosecutor of Kampong Chhnang Provincial Court, ordered police to search for the victim's car which was traced to Phnom Penh.

Authorities, who asked not to be named, said that the search operation had arrested two people who had bought the victim's car from a suspect who said it was a duty-free vehicle.
When the suspect was found and questioned, he confessed that he dumped the victim's body in the river at the Prek Samrong Bridge in Takhmao City, Kandal Province, so he could steal the car.
