Think before getting involved in a Thai domestic dispute

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

A 36 year old American was stabbed in his back after he attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute involving a Thai woman and her foreign husband in Soi Buakhao on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred in front of the SS Laundry & Salon and resulted in Mr. Morgin Kant being taken to Hospital with multiple stab wounds to his back.

Police arrested the alleged attacker, Khun Sunisa aged 21 and took her to the Police Station with the knife she is thought to have used during the attack.

Police Investigators determined that Khun Sunisa was having a heated argument with her Husband, Mr. Hamidi Samir aged 28 from France. Their 3 year old daughter was also there and was crying as she watched her parents fight.

Mr. Kant was walking by and approached the pair and attempted to stop them fighting. During the fracas, he ended up fighting with Mr. Samir who was smaller and was clearly no match for Mr. Kant.

In a panic, Khun Sunisa produced a knife she was carrying in her bag and stabbed Mr. Kant in his back until he dropped to the ground and ceased fighting with her Husband.

Injuries sustained to Mr. Kant are not thought to be life-threatening and Police are currently investigating the case further before they press criminal charges against Khun Sunisa.

I once saw an older European man get involved in a very similar situation in Thailand. The Thai husband and wife were physically fighting in front of a 7-11. She wouldn't give up and his punches and knees to her midsection were getting quite unbearable to witness. It just went on and on. The Thai guy's motodop buddies were standing around having a good laugh at the spectacle. Their 3 or 4 year old daughter was watching the whole thing with a blank look on her face and trying to hold on to her mother's leg. The farang gently and bravely took the girl aside and managed to distract her from the severe beating her mother was still enduring 5 feet away. He gave her some water and wipe the tears off the girls face and tried to clown around and make her smile. He at least managed to shield the child from some of the harshness of the situation. As brave as that act was, he could easily have met a similar or worse fate than the good Samaritan in this story.

Just don't understand why these people have always some knives hidden somewhere. But it's correct....sadly they are like this.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Always a tricky subject.
We stopped a guy from strangling his "girlfriend" on Riverside once - a drunk Russian - but no fighting. We were at the next table and when we started shouting at him to stop, people gathered around and he saw he was outnumbered. Even the tuktuk drivers stepped in - the guy was huge and he was seriously trying to strangle her in the middle of all these people eating dinner.

But, guess what? Once the guy was forcibly calmed down, she didn't leave and they just went on with their meal.
I always wondered if she ended up as one of those women found murdered under a guesthouse bed.

I know next to nothing about Pattaya, but it seems like a lot of bad shit goes down on "Soi Buakhao." What kind of street is that?

It is between and runs parallel to the main Second and Third roads. There is a lot of cheap apartments and guest houses and lots of cheap bars. Running off it is Soi LK Metro which in the last few years has developed into the biggest concentration of go-go's outside of Walking street and pub/bars in the rest of that Soi. That critical mass of nightlife makes a cheaper more viable alternative for many who baulk at walking street prices, so that overall mix probably explains the usual add on of anti social behaviour. You could say that Walking Street is for tourists whereas that area is preferred by resident expats.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.
