Can't we all just get Covid & get along!
Can't we all just get Covid & get along!
The older I get the more I dislike other peoples company anyway but it's getting to the stage where we might just have to let this virus run it's course. Could the long term effects of the vaccines be more damaging than the cause.
Seems to be more of a panic than a pandemic
Gee I've only been in lock down for 12 hours & was asleep for over half of that, yet I'm already reaching out

Yeah I'm finding it increasingly farcical that we keep seeing these Khmer Times reports about where or when a COVID-19 positive person went somewhere. By now we've likely all been in contact at some point or time with someone positive, or visited a place they have.

"Latest covid positive person was at xyz shop/market 10 days ago. If you were there 10 days ago as well, then you need to self-isolate for 14 days."
Um, but what about all the places that the covid positive person has been to since then?

Just let it run it’s course.

I'm sympathetic to the first sentence there - now that the most vulnerable have been vaccinated the "it's just a bad flu" argument holds a little more water than it used to. You lost me by the second sentence though, which is completely baseless fearmongering of its own.Yobbo wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 9:02 am The older I get the more I dislike other peoples company anyway but it's getting to the stage where we might just have to let this virus run it's course. I'd say at this stage the main argument for trying to keep the numbers down is that high case numbers -> more variants -> vaccine resistance -> everyone back to square one and we have to repeat 2020 all over again
I also suspect many often fall for the trap of thinking that because there hasn't been a catastrophic breakdown of an overwhelmed healthcare system thanks to the various covid prevention measures, that means it was all an overreaction and we could have skipped those measures altogether and it would have been the same outcome. Don't forget, 4M dead worldwide so far and still counting at a rate of 8k dead a day - this virus isn't nothing. I can't even picture 4 million people.

Yes, I recall reading it along the lines of: 'it's a race against time'. Aka if we don't nip this thing in the bud, then it'll be like a game of 'whack a mole' trying to counter new, more virulent strains.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 4:21 pmI'm sympathetic to the first sentence there - now that the most vulnerable have been vaccinated the "it's just a bad flu" argument holds a little more water than it used to. It occurred to me that the PRC may be shaking in their boots right now. After their international reputation has taken a huge hit around the world for 1. causing the Wuhan virus, 2. not containing it, they now have to contend with the issue that their vaccines may not be up to the job. All those countries that decided to trust/have faith in their vaccines will be mighty p*ssed off if they are found to be sub par. Double blow and serious loss of face for the PRC if that is the result.
My guess is China has the data of the efficacy of their vaccines with the new strains and are probably feverishly (pun intended) working on a booster to counter the new strains. Will be interesting to see how that pans out..
