Human rights groups have called on the British foreign secretary, Dominic Raab, to intervene over the detention of three young environmental activists when he meets Cambodian leaders on Wednesday in efforts to build trade ties between the two countries.

The activists, who were arrested at the weekend, face up to 10 years in jail for insulting the Cambodian king. Their case has been raised by environmental activist Greta Thunberg and NGO groups in the country.
Absolutely no chance.

This visit is all about money, not telling people who they should not lock up.

UK to Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, June 23, 2021 --

Foreign Secretary H.E. Dominic Raab visits Cambodia to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation on global challenges, according to UK Government's press release today.

In his first visit to Cambodia, the UK Foreign Secretary will meet H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to set out the UK’s ambition for the UK to become an ‘ASEAN Dialogue Partner’, ahead of Cambodia taking up the Chair of ASEAN in 2022, said the same source, adding that H.E. Dominic Raab will also meet Environment Minister H.E. Say Samal to discuss climate change and Cambodia’s COP26 aspirations.

"This year marks 30 years since the UK reopened our Embassy in Cambodia and I am struck by the progress the country has made from its thriving business’ to standards of education and healthcare," H.E. Dominic Raab said ahead of his first visit to Cambodia. “I look forward to building on these foundations, as Cambodia takes on the important role of ASEAN Chair next year.”

Hopefully while he's here he'll drop in to the worlds worst and most embarrassing foreign embassy and sort out the shit-fuckery that goes on there.

If I'd known he was coming I seriously would have organised some kind of action to draw attention to the plight of us Brits out here who, as the pandemic clearly demonstrated, don't have a functioning embassy to turn to in time of crisis.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

Did you say the same thing for the Chinese foreign minister last year? Or have you finally adjusted to Uncle Xi
Missed that visit.

Appears the UK Foreign Minister isn't undergoing quarantine, has been in face to face meetings with Govt officials already according to the PPP.
As I understand it, Ambassadors don't quarantine, and diplomats self isolate wherever they choose.

Therfore Raab can hit the ground running, in jeans and a casual blazer.

They'd be better off sending Greta Thunberg herself, and she could address the government and say . . .

The meeting with Dominic Raab, as reported by Cambodia's Fresh News:

Cambodia Requests UK to Buy Carbon Credits from the Kingdom
23/06/21 21:31
Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 23 – UK’s foreign secretary Dominic Raab met with Cambodian environment minister Say Sam Al on Wednesday morning.

The two ministers discussed Cambodia’s climate ambitions ahead of COP26 and joint priorities such as working towards net zero and reforestation, as well as biodiversity and the illegal wildlife trade.

The UK's foreign secretary touched on the close bonds of the two countries in which this year marked 30 years since the UK reopened the British Embassy in Cambodia. He is delighted with the progress the Kingdom has made from its thriving business to standards of education to healthcare.

Minister Sam Al briefed the foreign secretary on the Cambodia’s achievements on environmental protection and natural resources conservation.

"What the UK can do to assist Cambodia in the field of environment is providing human resources, increasing trade cooperation and purchasing products from Cambodia," said Cambodian environment minister.

Minister Sam Al underlined that the UK can consider purchasing carbon credits from Cambodia and that revenues will be allocated on wildlife conservation, economic development, and people's livelihoods.

In response, Dominic Raab has pledged to send experts to Cambodia to study Cambodia's needs for better environment and natural resources, which Minister Sam Al welcomed.
