UK News, Updates and Discussion

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

I spent last weekend in Somerset. First time back there in 18'ish years. Over 5 hours to do less than 200 miles. Won't be doing it again in a hurry!!
There is something ineffably dismal about driving on busy English roads.
But compared to Cambodia you were flying along

Good, let the buggers go to Skegness until the Frogs grovel for their custom. A complete summer season with low UK visitor numbers should be the trick.
Just as I hoped. The Grauniad reports:

our international clientele – who do not quibble with prices and are always ready to order a good bottle of wine – has so far disappeared.”

The demographic of their visitors is likely to be over 50, affluent, cautious and will respect the isolation rules when they return. It looks like the calculations have been made and the decision to sit it out this year has been made.

The Benidorm crowd are much more likely to take a flyer and bugger the isolation consequences.

Yes! Dual pricing is not only for Asia! The genteel UK middle class who love their adorable little French towns with their quaint little restaurants that serve agreeable wine served by the most charming owner who chats with them politely en francais.
Translation - suckers overpaying for bog standard French food at a place where the owner makes more profit in one summer month than he does for 8 months out of season, all the owner has to do is suppress a giggle at their appalling accents. Actually it sounds like Cornwall but without the accents. The Cornish are minting it this year of course as the Brits holiday at home.

Double-jabbed UK tourists could skip amber-list quarantine under proposals
Ministers looking at loosening travel restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers returning to England

British travellers who have had two Covid vaccines could be allowed quarantine-free entry into England under plans being considered by ministers, the Guardian understands.

Assume this only means vaccinated in the UK. The need for a global vaccine passport is becoming more necessary by the day but still no movement as far as I can see.

That's my kind of crisis. What I wouldn't give for supermarket shelves like that in PP.

The UK is full of whinging, moaning cry-babies that don't know how lucky they are.
