Worker Dies in Fall from Phnom Penh Construction Site

Man killed in fall from Phnom Penh condo
A man has died this afternoon after falling 6 floors from a Phnom Penh condominium.

The incident happened at around 1.30 pm at a condominium currently under construction in Street 376, Sangkat Boeung Keng Kang 3, Phnom Penh.

The man – identified as Sen Vibol, a 20 year old welder – had been working on the newly constructed 6th floor of the building, when he suddenly fell.

Witnesses at the scene say that the man died instantly.

After examination by the Office of Forensic Technician of the Phnom Penh Municipal Commissioner, the body of the victim was handed over to relatives for traditional rites.

When do you think they will start requiring safety harnesses and tag lines, and proper scaffolding with railing? Is there no OSHA equivalent here?

Erecting scaffolding takes time, as does having workers take time to be tied off when working at altitude, not to mention the cost of the safety equipment needed.

What's terrible about this particular event is that parents lost a son, siblings lost a brother, a wife probably lost her husband, and friends lost a friend.

But the construction company owner doesn't give a fuck. All about maxing out profit.
