Bum Gun Culture

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Bum Gun Culture

So, you've made the move here, how long did it take to wean yourself off toilet paper?

OR, are you still addicted?

It took me about 18 months before I gave up buying the stuff.

6 months. Now we have to buy toilet paper whenever friends and family are visiting from abroad.

It's not an either/or. It's a both/and type of situation.

I can't believe bum guns haven't caught on much in the West.

Yeah, it is hard to believe that's for sure.

No kidding!

I think I jumped right on it.

I tried both (wash with the bum gun, then dry off with toilet paper). Clearly that doesn't work.

Now I despise toilet paper.

I hate the fancy places that don't give you the choice here. Just cruel.

I got used to after a few months and I really like it now, I mean it's much more hygienic and it feels much cleaner. The toilets with only a scooper took longer to get used to though. The last time I was back in the non-bum-gun-world I thought it was rather disgusting to smear shit all over the place. Bum Gun, all the way!

Nearly sprayed beer on my laptop!

Bit wary about putting public ones anywhere near my date - dunno where they've been...

The thing I love about SEA washrooms, is the fact that you can clean them with your gun pretty easily.
The cedar roasted asparagus has good chew. I don't know how to enjoy it, so I'll Instagram it instead.

For the first two or three years I didn't have the luxury of a bum gun. It was just the trough of water and the hand bucket thingie.
Doesn't take that long to get used to. Just keep telling yourself "It's my bum, and I won't get sick from my own faeces".
Don't forget to wash your hands and keep your nails trimmed!
