Angry Bird Bar

Re: Angry Bird Bar
Youre starting to ramble here and make no sense. Remember that most of the bars are run by Khmer women and apart from one or two are quite a happy family, the girls support the boss and the boss supports the girls. They are all in it together. In Phnom Penh lots of girls have regular customers who might ring them up and say they are coming at say eight o clock to take them out. She will have some lady drinks with a tourist or whatever and then leave the bar when her pickup arrives. The bar owner values this sort of customer and often buys him drinks. This idea of some fabricated "pimp" is foreign to us living in Phnom Penh of course it may make sense in your world but not to us.NokTang wrote:In the perfect "bar" world...all the girls work right up to closing time, pay their barfine, and leave. You might think it makes no sense to pay said barfine at closing or before opening aka off duty, but suffice to say, this will come to PNH if not already there. You were clear about making the arrangement on the "bars" time which is one of a thousand excuses the pimp will give you(and cut her wages) a barfine is due. The number one excuse/reason is you would have never met her in said "bar" without his investment and being open which as I say leaves out her parents and the moto dop boyfriend who brought her safely to said "bar". Life is a bar to some folks and they allow this stuff to sink into their minds and become little boys overnight.Kuroneko wrote: Perhaps I was not quite clear about the arrangement. This could be the scenario where the customer leaves the bar then a short while later the girl pays the barfine and meets up with said punter at some prearranged venue. Punter later reimburses girl and pays whatever service fee was arranged.
The bar manager usually wants the girls to stay in the bar and consume lady drinks with a drinking customer. The less attractive girls in the bar the less chance of customers. If they are not going with customers and keeping them in the bar then they are doing their job.
Re: Angry Bird Bar
Good morning.....this "family" concept is all part of it as you say. The end goal is to get as much from the barang as possible, as much money I mean, not love. Sure, the "bar owner" loves the customer who uses said system and loves having other "tourist" buy up lady drinks for a girl he/she knows will be barfined soon. Win win for said "bar owner". There is nothing fabricated i.e. the pimp label. All of this will come to PNH if not there already. Let me know if/when you hear about the buying of a girl "out" of a hostess bar be it barang "owned" or run by a Khmer pimp. Thanks.Kuroneko wrote: Youre starting to ramble here and make no sense. Re: Angry Bird Bar
While you and your new sidekick might find reality amusing and want to shield the others from reading it, rest assured, many don't know about the inner workings of the prostitution business disguised as "hostess bars" and "gogo" and "beer bar"s. It's a wicked form of prostitution, many would argue worse than straight forward pay for play. The reasons being among many others, to establish a "family" and dependence and other bonds is out and out cheating a fine lady of her dignity. While I don't state that said wicked vial practices are going on now in PNH, I'm here to warn you, it will come as long as you continue to condone said conduct as outlined i.e. the lady drinks where she has no intention of going with the customer for sex.logos wrote:Oh Christ not again.
ps: A new 2nd hand bookstore opened in Pattaya. The outrage is overwhelming. So many here don't want others to read and learn and get educated and pursue their interests without using a "bar" and being drunk as the conduit. I'll add your name to their protest signs.
Re: Angry Bird Bar
Seriously how many hostess bars have you actually been to in Phnom Penh and been ''screwed'' or felt you have been ''screwed'' by the bar or girls? I have not had that experience, although I admit that there are places that pad the bill or use fake drinks, but this is not the general rule. Simple solution avoid the bad places and only visit the ones that give good service. This idea that bars are generally trying to rip off the customer sound more like the tourist traps of the old Patpong rather than the reality of Phnom Penh.NokTang wrote:

The object of any business is to make as much money as possible so whats wrong with that? At the same time though most businesses endeavour to give good service and value for money to ensure repeat custom and hostess bars are no different, and if they don't do that they go out of business.
Your statement: ''The end goal is to get as much from the barang as possible, as much money I mean, not love''. seems to imply a ''them and us'' situation which I have never found to be the case. Many customers are Khmer, and whether Khmer, Barang or any other ethnicity are treated the same and generally happy with the service they receive.
The last part of the sentence seems a little odd to me were you refer to it being about money not love. Of course it is not about love, as I mentioned before you are paying for a performance and to be entertained by the hostess for the time it takes to have a few drinks. I cant imagine any one but the extremely naive would think that love was involved.
Your use of the word ''pimp'' seems to be used deliberately to be offensive to hostess bar owners. Looked at semiotically the word caries a lot of negative connotations far in excess of its definition to facilitate prostitution. In the same way the term "nigger" does to describe an African American. One could argue that by definition they mean the same, however the former carries with it highly offensive connotations where the latter does not. Similarly the word pimp implies the lowest form of protection racketeer who uses stand over tactics to exploit underclass street prostitutes, and the term is really unwarranted when referring to hostess bar owners in general, unless of course you are wanting to be deliberately offensive.
Re: Angry Bird Bar
They are in the prostitution business. All the excuses and smoke screens don't fool anyone but a few naive tourists. We are here to help them see through it, that's really all. If someone doesn't want to be thought of as a pimp, he/she shouldn't get into the prostitution business. In addition, courts as well as public opinion have determined that having "barfines" however disguised(i.e. fines/cuts of salary) is pimping and subjects/exposes said "owner" or operator to criminal charges. I don't make or enforce the laws. You will have to write your local congressman if you don't agree with them but be careful doing so because as I say, public opinion is against you not to mention past convictions.Kuroneko wrote: Your use of the word ''pimp'' seems to be used deliberately to be offensive to hostess bar owners. .
Re: Angry Bird Bar
As I live in Phnom Penh that is pretty much irrelevant, however if I ever returned to Australia I don't think public opinion would be particularly against me as prostitution is legal everywhere except South Australia and the laws are ok as they stand. For example:NokTang wrote:I don't make or enforce the laws. Victoria: Brothel prostitution was legalised in Victoria in 1994 with the Prtitution Control Act 1994. In 2011, the act was ammended through the Sex Work and other Acts Ammendment Bill and it is now referred to as the Sex Work Act 1994. Brothels are regulated through Consumer Affairs Victoria (as are estate agents and motor vehicle traders) Street prostitution remains illegal. The aim of the legislation was to remove the criminal element in the industry, especially the use of underage and trafficked women, and to provide better regulation.
NSW: Prostitution in NSW is decriminalised, with brothels coming under local council planning regualtions like any other business. Some activities remain illegal, such as child prostitution. The details of prostitution related offences are found in the Summary Offences Act 1988 (Part 3)

NokTang wrote:That's cheating the bar out of a "barfine". Yes, I know they are off duty but in the "bar owners" world you would not have met the lady if she didn't work in the precious bar. Never mind her parents are really the reason she exists. It's a mindset of bar bar bar bar bar bar you must deal with. The "bar" and "barfine" are to be considered when making such off duty meetings, no matter what they are for be it sight seeing or anal sex. Think bar and "bar owner" and act accordingly. Your and her life revolve around the "bar" and said pimp.Kuroneko wrote:In this situation girls if interested give you their phone number and arrange a later meeting.
Thats usually what I do. its usually 50/50.
