Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. How about teaching them something more intellectually meaningful with greater promise for future prospects.

Something in the STEM fields maybe?

Naw, science, technology, engineering and math take too long.

We can show cashed up bleeding heart donors, concrete results in weeks if not days.........."Look, now I can make a rose out of frosting!" "Watch me support my family with this skill."

Also..........a cake decorating school for women?!? Where is the woke mob? "Look, white privileged CIS males are trying to keep women in the kitchen!"
You can google this for the full story.

The Christian owners of a Northern Ireland bakery have won their appeal in the so-called "gay cake" discrimination case.
The UK's highest court ruled that Ashers bakery's refusal to make a cake with a slogan supporting same-sex marriage was not discriminatory.
The five justices on the Supreme Court were unanimous in their judgement.
The high-profile dispute began in 2014 when the bakery refused to make a cake with the slogan "Support Gay Marriage".

Did they both share the same first name, 'Elder'?
And, were they pushing or riding bicycles?
I had 2 mormons knock on my door a couple of years ago, for a change I invited them in made a pot of tea and then we all sat down. I said "ok whats this mormon thing all about" he gave me a blank stare and said "I have forgotten, its so long since anybody has asked me in"

they may not want to appear in a buddhist country run by "socialists" that they are proselytizing.
When I need advice about life, I just check in here.

We are NOT proselytising!!
Got that?
Proselytising an alien religion is illegal in Cambodia. (true story)

We are just feeding rice to the pigeons.

1 - Maybe it's a extra element of surprise, in order to level-up with the top-notch surprising aspect of the Buddhist religion : Reincarnation.
Christian : Paradise or Hell, not much surprise. Reincarnation ? Turn the wheel, get a random next life !

2- Maybe they see target countries as traditionally deceptive environments (politics, law, corruption, introduction to genocides, etc..) , so they try to blend in lying by default to start on the same feet as powerful local systems ?

3- Maybe because they still believe in multiplying fishes and curing lepers by the power of thinking is legit, so let's roll the fantasy way anyway ?

More likely is that they want to get their foot in the door first, use a bit of subterfuge to gain trust and then introduce the fire, brimstone, guilt, fear, and all the other weird stuff :stir:

Was Christianity introduced in New Zealand through the prism of bungee jumping, as a foot in the door ?

Ah, it seems the times don't match. Too bad, great idea.

I've come across missionaries in the ESL world and that's exactly what they do. Get a job 'teaching English', often working for peanuts or even free which pisses actual English teachers right off, then have the kids singing hymns and proselytising. The kid's parents are often outraged at the deception and waste of their precious time and probably the arrogance of it.

I don't want to judge this couple, it could be that their intentions are simply to help vulnerable people in whatever way is available to them and experience a different culture in the process, and good for them, that's awesome. But I can't help thinking missionaries under cover are just grifters. If they want to help, that's great, set up their classes. If they want to set up a mission to proselytise that should have nothing to do with the classes and with no obligation to take on someone else's religious beliefs just to try to get some education.

To be fair, you're not likely to make a lot of headway with STEM on a 28 year old single mom with a grade 6 education.
