The Serum Institute of India has developed a vaccine that protects against the Indian variant.xandreu wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 7:05 pm Experts warn vaccines are 'almost certainly less effective' at reducing transmission of Indian variant
It seems that this is just going to go on and on and on... When will it ever end?Adding to concerns, Dr Harnden today revealed that Britain's vaccine rollout - hailed as the key to preventing another wave - may not stop the virus infecting the vulnerable.
He said the jab is not only 'less effective against mild disease', it is 'almost certainly less effective against transmission' - partly because immunisation only begins three weeks after the vaccine is given.

Headline: Italian study shows COVID-19 infections, deaths plummeting after jabs
Here's a WTF? Really? It's worse than I thought in Europe.

Anyway . . .The first such study by a European Union country on the real-world impact of its immunisation campaign was carried out by [Italy's National Institute of Health] (ISS) and the Ministry of Health on 13.7 million people vaccinated nationwide.
"As of 35 days after the first dose, there is an 80% reduction in infections, 90% reduction in hospitalisations, and 95% reduction in deaths," the [Italy's National Institute of Health ] ISS said, adding that the same pattern was seen in both men and women regardless of age.
https://www.reuters.com/business/health ... 021-05-15/Among the nearly 14 million people included in the Italian study, 95% of those who had taken Pfizer and Moderna had completed the vaccine cycle, while none of those given AstraZeneca had received a second dose.

It doesn't protect. My friend had it and went on to catch that very same variant. Results show Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford/AstraZeneca jabs are proving highly effective
More than 90% of Britons develop antibodies to coronavirus after having one dose of the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines, and almost 100% do so after their second jab, research shows.
The findings, based on a study of 8,517 people in England and Wales, are the latest evidence to show that the two mainstays of Britain’s vaccine drive are proving highly effective.
The research found that 96.42% of people who had either vaccine had developed antibodies 28 to 34 days after their first dose. That rose to 99.08% within seven to 14 days of the second jab.

Re: Covid-19 VACCINE News
Two shots of the Sinopharm vaccine are proving not enough to continue developing antibodies. The UAE and now Bahrain are going the booster route, six months after the initial two-dose regimen.
FYI: UAE makes its own Sinopharm vaccine. And of course, no raw data has been released in the continuing Chinese (and UAE) smokescreen. Kudos to the WHO for bending a knee to the Chinese.
Headline: UAE to offer booster shot to recipients of Sinopharm vaccine
A little shocker of a side note. Maybe China is not so generous as it makes itself out to be. From the NYT, May 7, 2021:

https://apnews.com/article/middle-east- ... 16ebad139aInfections in the UAE have gradually declined from peaks reached in January as tourists fleeing lockdowns back home flooded the country’s bars and beaches. But daily counts of new cases still hover over 1,000 a day, far above last year’s levels, even as the country has administered 117 vaccine doses per 100 residents. Unlike other countries with rapid vaccination drives, like Israel and the United Kingdom, the UAE remained open for business after emerging from a strict lockdown a year ago.
Earlier this month, health authorities in Bahrain, another small Gulf Arab sheikhdom that has relied on Sinopharm for its speedy campaign, reported that a booster shot “will soon be made available to individuals, with the aim of strengthening herd immunity.”

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse , now china and the Arabs have joined together to give everyone a vaccination. Take it at your own risk.
