More Chinese Takeover in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

More Chinese Takeover in Sihanoukville

Chinese must have cut all the trees already in 1992 as I don't see any forests in that picture

There never was. And it is not just Chinese that cut down trees. I lived there for seven years and the Khmer are pretty handy with an axe too. For whatever reason (and they often don't seem to need one) they seem to have a grudge against trees in general. Many times you could go outside one day to find a tree nearby gone and have no idea why they cut it, they just did. And no, they were not all for firewood, some just lay where they fell. Petty damn aggravating considering the Western mindset of trees=good, no trees=bad. Not all bad though. You could be pretty sure that soon someone would light up a nice black smoke producing plastic fire once the wind started to blow in your direction!

The picture on the right looks exactly like any-city in China.
Who's the target market for the high rise apartments? They look expensive.

The (suspiciously ?) clean and beautiful city of Sihanoukville as presented today, with no rubbish and very little traffic:
