Covid-19 bleach 'cure' sold by New Zealand man rusts steel
3:09pm •
A bleach promoted by a New Zealand website as a "miracle" cure for Covid-19 that should be drunk or inhaled is a potent acid that can rust steel within hours.
By Susan Strongman of rnz.co.nz

In May, RNZ revealed Ngatea man Roger Blake, who is involved with a cult-like American organisation called Genesis II, was selling the chemicals through his online business, and claimed they could cure Covid-19 as well as cancer, HIV, autism and more.

A separate website called Miracle Mineral NZ, which was linked to Blake's Ngatea address, encouraged people to buy the chemicals - sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid - combine them, then inhale the gas emitted.

Alternatively, the website advised people to dilute a small amount of the chemical with water and drink it eight times a day for a week.

Forensic scientist Dr Ian Calhaem, who tested the product for RNZ, found that when prepared as instructed on the Miracle Mineral website, the substance was acidic enough to rust a steel bar within two hours of being immersed in the liquid.

When asked if he would drink the substance, Dr Calhaem said "definitely not". He told RNZ that the sodium chlorite sold by Blake was a "powerful oxidiser".

"If you read all the manufacturer's safety data sheets, one of the major things they say [about sodium chlorite] is 'do not mix it with acid'."

Dr Calhaem said combining sodium chlorite with hydrochloric acid, as instructed on the Miracle Mineral NZ website, was not recommended because it produced a "very toxic gas" - chlorine dioxide, which he said then broke down into chlorine gas.

"It creates a severe respiratory reaction. It can kill you."

Dr Calhaem said in a controlled environment, chlorine dioxide was used to clean drinking water.

When used that way in New Zealand, the maximum concentration allowed by the Ministry of Health was 0.8 parts per million. Roger Blake told RNZ he drank it at a concentration of 50ppm. The solution Dr Calhaem prepared as per instructions, which rusted steel, was about 12ppm.

The chemical was also used in some countries to clean fresh produce. After treatment, the produce must be rinsed with drinking water, and must not be consumed within 24 hours of treatment.

After RNZ revealed bleach was being promoted as a Covid-19 cure in New Zealand, the Ministry of Health's safety watchdog, Medsafe, published an alert, warning consumers of the "potentially life-threatening side effects" of drinking chlorine dioxide.

"Reports of harm included severe vomiting and diarrhoea, life-threatening low blood pressure caused by dehydration and acute liver failure", the alert read, referencing warnings by medicines regulators from Australia, the United States and Canada.

Medsafe has put out multiple warnings about the sale of the product in New Zealand since 2010.

Dr Calhaem reiterated that people should not drink or even handle the substance without the correct protection - including gloves, safety glasses and a breathing mask.

He said there was no evidence the bleach could cure Covid-19.

Roger Blake did not respond to RNZ's interview requests for this article, but he continues to promote the chemical's efficacy.

A recent email sent to customers of his online business claimed, "whether it be Coronavirus, Hepatitis, Ebola, Zika; it is a scientific fact that NO virus can withstand chlorine dioxide; and it has already been tested effective against coronavirus."

The email contained links to various websites, including an anti-vaccination documentary, far-right American conspiracy theory and fake news sites and to the film Plandemic, which claims a secret society of billionaires is plotting to gain global domination by controlling people through a Covid-19 vaccine.

Another email sent to Blake's customers linked readers to information about a "quasi-experimental" Colombia-based study sponsored by the "Genesis Foundation", where 20 people with Covid-19 drank a litre of diluted bleach daily for an unknown period of time.

Since RNZ revealed Blake was promoting the chemical as a cure for Covid-19, some minor changes have been made to the Miracle Mineral NZ website.

Previously, the website linked users directly to Blake's online store to buy the chemicals used to make chlorine dioxide. Now, it directs users to a third-party website, which then directs users to Blake's website.

Medical researcher Dr Shaun Holt told RNZ that people who sold the solution both in New Zealand and overseas often played a "cat and mouse game" with authorities.

"They'll make claims illegally and then they'll try and hide them, or they'll make implied claims, they'll change the name of the product, or change the formulation slightly... it keeps cropping up."

In a 2015 Stuff article, Blake is pictured with a bottle labelled 'MMS Water'. The products he currently sells are labelled as 'Water Purification Solution'.

Blake has recently stopped selling dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) online. The solvent byproduct of the wood pulp making process has been touted in the past as an alternative cancer treatment.

The Miracle Mineral NZ website advised users to take DMSO orally or through the skin.

The Genesis II Church of Health and Healing originated in Florida and is not religious; its sole function is to promote the use of the chlorine dioxide bleach formula that it calls Miracle Mineral Supplement, or MMS, which its followers also sell.

To become a 'bishop' of the church - a title held by Roger Blake - one can download a $320 video course, and must provide two video testimonials of people who have been 'treated' with chlorine dioxide.

Back to Florida: More on the sellers of industrial bleach ' Covid miracle cures' ...

US company illegally peddling ‘miracle cure’ bleach for new Covid variants

Oclo in Florida exploiting fears around new virus strains by selling chlorine dioxide, despite FDA warnings against fraudulent ‘cures’
The appearance of a new marketing push out of Miami by peddlers of the bleach ‘cure’ signals the FDA’s uphill struggle in trying to control the potentially lethal trade.

Peddlers of industrial bleach who urge Americans to drink the fluid as a “miracle cure” for cancer, HIV/Aids and other diseases have begun touting the product illegally as a treatment for the latest variants of Covid-19.

Chlorine dioxide, a powerful bleaching agent used in textile and paper manufacturing, is being compounded and sold out of a makeshift laboratory in Miami, Florida. The company, Oclo Nanotechnology Science, is playing on fears of the new strain of the coronavirus discovered in the UK, which is now spreading rapidly and widely through the US.

The UK variant, B117, is thought to be more transmissible and deadly than the initial form of the virus.

The Miami company is invoking B117 to drive up sales of its bleach products, which the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns are potentially dangerous and can be life-threatening. The front page of Oclo’s website is dominated by a photograph of vials of its chlorine dioxide product billed as an “antiviral” treatment.

The image is superimposed with the words: “B117 … new variant of coronavirus, the most contagious and dangerous in the United States. Rescuing chlorine dioxide and its great curative potential against pathogens.”

The appearance of a new marketing push out of Miami by peddlers of the bleach “cure”, often referred to as “miracle mineral solution”, or MMS, signals the FDA’s uphill struggle in trying to control the potentially lethal trade. Since the start of the pandemic, the federal agency has been clamping down on fraudulent products which claim to treat or cure Covid-19.

It has also been using its enforcement muscle to move against chlorine dioxide dealers. Last August, the FDA arrested Mark Grenon and his four sons, who were among the most prominent “miracle” bleach peddlers in the US.

Members of the Grenon family claimed to be “bishops” of the Florida-based Genesis II “church” that sold bleach under the guise that it was a “sacrament”. They remain in jails in Miami and Colombia awaiting extradition to the US facing charges of conspiracy to defraud the US and to introduce a misbranded drug into interstate commerce.

Having taken down Genesis II, the FDA is now facing outcrops of new MMS dealers. Oclo is run by a former Cuban living in Hallandale Beach, north of Miami.

Ricardo Garcia describes himself as a “research and development scientist” trained in chemistry at the University of Havana, though he also identifies as a real estate agent. Most of his customers in the US are Latino Americans.

He is also known to be offering to transport bleach in enema form to Europe for use on autistic children, at a cost of $680 per liter plus shipping.

In text messages between Garcia and an autism advocate based in Europe, he said that he was distributing the vials mainly in “local areas in the USA”. He added: “We have been censored several times on social media but are still producing to save lives.”

Despite Garcia’s protestations, his main trading route still appears to be through social media sites. He promotes his toxic products on Facebook, Amazon and eBay.

He clearly has some success selling through Amazon. His “immune booster against pathogens”, costing $49.99, is a bestseller ranked 105 in the “sports nutrition and hydration products” category.

The Guardian asked Garcia why he was selling bleach illegally as a treatment for the B117 strain of Covid and other diseases. He gave the reply: “We are really sorry for the loss of your loved one. Thank you for publishing the latest scientific advances with chlorine dioxide in the treatment of Covid-19. We have a great interest in saving lives – you too, right?”

UPDATE
Florida family may spend life in prison after ‘church’ sold bleach as COVID-19 cure

©Miami Herald
MIAMI — A federal grand jury brought charges against members of a Bradenton family nearly a year after they were arrested for selling bleach that they claimed to be a cure for the COVID-19 virus.

Mark Grenon and his three sons — Jonathan, Jordan and Joseph — face several charges for peddling their “Miracle Mineral Solution” to customers even after the Food and Drug Administration refuted those claims and a court ordered the family to halt sales of the chemicals.

Two of the Grenons, 34-year-old Jonathan and 26-year-old Jordan, were arrested last July when federal agents raided their home on Garden Lane in Bradenton. At that time, federal investigators say they found loaded guns, nearly 10,000 pounds of sodium chlorite powder and thousands of bottles of MMS.

The family members were indicted by a federal grand jury in Miami. Mark, 62, and Joseph, 32, remain in Colombia, where they were detained in August, according to prosecutors.

Court records show that the Grenons made more than $1 million selling MMS. On top of marketing it as a cure for COVID-19, the Grenons allegedly pitched the deadly concoction as a cure-all that could remedy a host of medical conditions, such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and HIV.

The FDA said it received several reports of hospitalizations and life-threatening conditions as people drank MMS. At least seven people died after drinking the chemical mixture, federal prosecutors say.

Prosecutors said they believe the Grenons sold MMS under their “non-religious” Genesis Church of Health and Healing in an effort to bypass government regulation. The FDA has not approved MMS for any sort of medical treatment and advises against drinking it under any circumstance.

The sodium chlorite becomes an industrial bleach when it is mixed with water or ingested. Drinking MMS is the same as drinking an industrial bleach that is used to bleach textiles and paper, the FDA warned. Side effects of drinking bleach include severe vomiting, diarrhea and extremely low blood pressure.

In an earlier civil case, a judge ordered the Grenons to quit selling the dangerous product, but the Grenons ignored the demand, prosecutors said. Instead, the Grenons kept selling MMS and threatened to “pick up guns” and instigate “a Waco,” according to court records, referring to the 1993 deadly standoff in Texas between federal agents and David Koresh’s Branch Davidian cult.

Health officials in India have warned against using cow dung as a treatment for Covid-19 amid reports people had taken to smearing the manure on their faces and body and even consuming potions made from the matter, especially in rural parts of the country.

With the second wave of pandemic ravaging India, widespread claims of possible treatments from cow products have forced medics of the country’s biggest doctor’s association, the Indian Medical Association, to warn people of the “health risks” of contracting other diseases.

"There is no concrete scientific evidence that cow dung or urine work to boost immunity against Covid-19, it is based entirely on belief,” Dr JA Jayalal, national president at the Indian Medical Association told Reuters.

"There are also health risks involved in smearing or consuming these products – other diseases can spread from the animal to humans."

One Covid-19 isolation centre designated for treatment from cow products is being run in a village of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi’s home state.

Well, if people are ready to smear shit all over themselves, i guess the situation is ripe to propose various therapies based on the same treatment, only to replace shit with anything more pleasant, and make people pay for it.

In the name of saint Dorito, i believe triangle-shaped snacks can cure you, and the fee for the treatment will be around 100$.

Anti-Maskers Ready to Start Masking—to Protect Themselves From the Vaccinated

An anti-vaccine conspiracy about the vaccinated are leading some anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers to contemplate wearing a mask and social distance.

A conspiracy ripping through the anti-vax world may finally drive some anti-maskers to do the unthinkable: wear a mask and keep their distance.

The conspiracy—which comes in several shapes and sizes—more or less says the vaccinated will “shed” certain proteins onto the unvaccinated who will then suffer adverse effects. The main worry is the “shedding” will cause irregular menstruation, infertility, and miscarriages. The entirely baseless idea is a key cog in a larger conspiracy that COVID-19 was a ploy to depopulate the world, and the vaccine is what will cull the masses.
Another prominent anti-vaxxer suggested quarantining people who have been vaccinated. “There is something being passed from people who are shot up with this poison to others who have not gotten the shot,” said Larry Palevsky, a New York pediatrician and anti-vaxxer, on a separate livestream. They should also “have a badge on their arms that say ‘I've been vaccinated even though it's not a vaccine’ so that we know to avoid them on the street, to not go near them anywhere in society,” he said
