We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Cambodia News (Siem Reap): On May 10, 2021, the Department of investigation and procedure officers (from Siem Reap Immigration Department), received a British man from the local quarantine center.

Lieutenant Chea Kimsan, the deputy director of the immigration department, reported that the foreign man was identified as STEVEN SKELLY, 37 years old, a British national, who had no place to stay.
On May 7, 2020, he came to Cambodia through Phnom Penh International Airport and continued his journey to Banteay Meanchey. In August 2020, he went to Siem Reap to look for a job. Because of Covid-19, he couldn't find any job, and he had spent all his money. His visa was expired on July 07, 2020 and he didn't have enough money to renew it.

He then became homeless and stayed on the street, where he was recently picked up by the authorities for overstaying his visa, and sent to be Covid-19 tested. The result was negative, so he was taken to get quarantined.

The British man was taken to the deportation department to follow the legal procedure.

I note they've given up their usual, weird hand holding and practice social distancing. Good.

So he arrived in Cambodia well after Covid kicked off, ran out of money to renew his visa in July, but didn't start looking for a job until August? Strange story.

How long do cases like this stay in the deportation centre before being deported?
