Wild Deer Herd Photographed in Kratie

Could one of you wildlife specialists tell us what species of deer this is ?

Herd of 7 Deer Appeared in Kratie Sambor Wildlife Sanctuary

Cambodia News, Kratie: A herd of at least 7 wild deer, including 4 adult deer, 2 adolescents, as well as 1 youngster, were found in the Sambor Wildlife Sanctuary in Kratie Province. According to the WWF Facebook page, the herd was photographed with automatic cameras by the Kratie Provincial Department of Environment and WWF on April 23, 2021.

For WWF, the presence of a herd of reindeer is evidence of the survival of this important species and suggests that the herd is capable of reproducing in protected areas of the Wildlife Sanctuary.

Wildlife surveillance using automated cameras was carried out by research experts during the first quarter of 2021 and with the participation of local people from community patrols living near the sanctuary area. According to WWF, the team has deployed automatic cameras at 11 major reindeer sanctuaries in the sanctuary, which covers a total area of 50,093 hectares and is geographically located along the Mekong River.

Eld’s Deer I think. Used to be fairly common, but hunting is decimating them. I Used to see them regularly at Aeng Traepang Thmor, but that place has been rubbished.
