Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Black Friday: Cambodia detects 576 new COVID-19 cases in one day
[CEO News: This figure has since been updated to 631 cases.]

The COVID-19 situation in Cambodia appears to have fallen into a state of emergency as the Ministry of Health reported 576 new cases today, a number which exceeds the total tally in all of 2020.

According to the daily statement released at around 2:20 pm today, the bulk of the new cases were detected in Phnom Penh, with 544 people were tested positive for the coronavirus yesterday. Most of them are either workers and employees at the “Din Han” garment factory located at Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district or those who are linked to O’Russey Market cluster.

The rest of the new cases are found in 5 other provinces including:

12 cases in Sihanoukville (all Cambodians)
16 cases in Svay Rieng (11 Cambodians, 2 Chinese and 3 Vietnamese)
1 case in Kandal (a 32-year-old Cambodian man)
1 case in Kampong Cham (a 37-year-old Cambodian woman)
2 cases in Siem Reap (two Cambodian men, age 30 and 32)

Probably the only surprise is, why didn't it happen earlier. What is the change for this to really happen now?

Because they are testing more? Or targeting the testing on known hotspots like Orussey. The numbers are almost certainly worse than this.

EDIT:

BREAKING: As of tonight find 631 more! Capital authorities decided to shut down (Lockdown) following areas:

1. Khan Meanchey: Close Steung Meanchey district on 1 and 2
2. Khan Sen Sok: Close the village of chicken cage
3. Pursenchey district: close 06 villages
