Fisheries Officer Injured in Tonle Sap Boat Attack
Cambodia News, (Pursat Province): A serious incident injured a Fisheries Protection boat driver on Wednesday night, April 7, 2021, on the surface of Tonle Sap Lake in the fishery conservation area, located in Koh Kaek village, Reang Til commune, Kandieng district, Pursat province.
Leng Pich, male, 33 years old, was driving a boat belonging to the Tay Kong Fisheries Protection Authority when he was seriously injured and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Hospital for treatment, after the boat was hit by a gang of criminals.
Police patrolling the fishery conservation area had found some illegal fishing nets in the area, when suddenly, the perpetrators, using a dark high-speed boat, deliberately crashed into the fisheries boat, causing the victim to fall into the water, breaking his hip and causing severe injuries. The other guard on board the boat drew a weapon, causing the perpetrators to flee, leaving behind three fish traps.
Sources from the Armed Forces officers guarding the scene said that the injured person, Leng Pich, male, 33 years old, Khmer, resides in Reang Til Commune, Kandieng District, Pursat Province, and he works as a boat driver for Fisheries Administration Officer (Kandeang Fisheries Administration Sangkat).
Authorities immediately sent an ambulance to the Pursat Provincial Referral Hospital to help the injured man and doctors rushed him to Phnom Penh. Pursat and Siem Reap authorities are cooperating to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
