Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

My Khmer friends told me that this is about laws being prepared in order to implement curfew. But it doesn’t seem that curfew will start tomorrow. More chance that it will be implemented for KNY Imo

You have Khmer friends, gav?

A curfew implemented for Khmer New Year!?!

The time of year where every swinging dick Khmer gets pissed out of his gourd and howls at the moon?

Who, pray tell, will enforce this? Are they cancelling KNY for all the police in the Kingdom?

also to note, most of the deaths seem to be middle aged people not the usual 70+ year old percentage reported in the west

From the link above:
6 mins ago - BREAKING NEWS
8pm-to-5am curfew to be imposed to stem the spread of COVID-19

Prime Minister HE issued a new sub-decree on COVID-19 Prevention Measures, which will impose a curfew at high risk areas except in certain cases.

According to a new sub-decree signed today by Mr HE, people are allowed to get out of their home for reasons including shopping for food, going to a hospital, a pharmacy, work, business, for COVID-19 test and vaccination.

Other necessary exceptions that permit people to leave home, include going for sports activities in the commune where they live, to the police station or the court as summoned or when family members are seriously ill or the emergency or death of a family member.

However, permission to leave the residences due to the necessary conditions is limited and that people are not allowed to travel for 24 hours as before.

Article 8 stipulates that all travel permitted in Article 4 shall not take place between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am”.

However, Article 8 still allows travel between 8 pm to 5 am in some cases, such as health problems such as going to a hospital immediately, emergency, transporting goods and fulfilling the duties, for public interest, to a workplace or business. It also states travel can be allowed between 8 pm and 5 am if it receives permission by authorities.

Article 8 states that all public institutions, private enterprises, and business locations shall close their doors from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am.

However, public and private institutions that provide emergency services, health services and gas stations are still allowed to operate between 8pm and 5am.
