Wood Thief Attacks Police with a Slingshot

Cambodia News (Battambang): On March 28, 2021, at 7:20 pm, a man attacked a policeman, causing an eye injury, Rumchek 3 village, Sangkat Ratanak, Battambang.

The police said the victim was identified as Van Dara, a deputy director of the serious crime department, who was injured in the right eye. According to Mr Van Dara, he saw the suspect, Kem Sros, a 30-year-old man, stealing a plank of wood from land near the provincial police station, so he chased the suspect, who fired a slingshot at him, causing him to get injured in the eye. The police arrested the suspect immediately.

The villagers said the suspect is a known thief, and he was climbing the fence to steal the wood, which he would drop outside the fence. But that night, when the suspect came to take the wood, he got chased by the police.
The suspect used to break into the villagers' houses to steal people's property, so the they were happy to see the thief arrested.
The police victim received 200,000 riels donations from the head of the unit.
