Re: Frenchman GERARD CARAYON Passed Away in Phnom Penh
On the internet, nothing is forgotten.
While checking in on GERARD CARAYON to see if a person of note had passed away in Phnom Penh, several articles came to light with an internet search, referring to a certain Frenchman, also called Gerard Carayon, who was convicted of raping two deaf children in Indonesia. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison in 2012, by a Parisian court, for crimes committed against children between 1997 and 2004.
This Gerard Carayon who was sentenced for raping children was the same age as the deceased (84), was a Frenchman from the Parisian region, and had spent many years in South East Asia and Cambodia, just like the deceased man.
Two articles on the court case against Gerard Carayon, held in 2012, are posted here. The first one is in English and the second has been translated from French; both have links, but the French translation is unofficial.

Justice : Humanitarian Worker Condemned to 8 Years for Rape
Le 8 september 2012
A 75yo man has been condemned to 8 years in prison by the Paris Court for the rape of two deaf children in Indonesia, which occurred while he directed an association to help handicapped children, according to his lawyer.
However, the accused was acquitted of charges against a third child, that the man considered as an “adopted son” , for whom he had built a house, and who transmitted a message to the court to say that he retired all charges.
Judged in France for rape on minors who were particularly vulnerable ,by a person in position of authority, GERARD CARAYON appeared before the court thanks to the laws that permit France to judge French citizens who commit crimes abroad.
Gerard Carayon was detained by police at Roissy Airport in Paris as he returned from Cambodia. He had been contacted by the French authorities who convinced him to go back to France to face trial. He denied all the charges against him.
The accused had been living in Yogyakarta in Java, Indonesia since the 1990s, and was taking in children who were deaf or hard of hearing to save them from being locked up in mental institutions. In his years in Indonesia, Carayon was also known under the name of Roddy de la Tour.
After being held in provisional detention in France for a year and a half, Carayon was released on bail but then disappeared. He was found trying to cross the frontier into Italy in August and was promptly arrested and summoned to appear in court.

Aid worker accused of raping deaf boys
Time of article published Sep 6, 2012
Paris - A 75-year-old French humanitarian worker goes on trial on Friday in Paris, accused of raping three deaf boys in Indonesia between 1997 and 2004, a charge he denies.
Gerard Carayon, a longtime resident of the Javanese capital Yogyakarta headed a non-governmental organisation which helped children in distress, including some who worked at his house.
In 2004, a French diplomat in Jakarta alerted Indonesian police about suspicions that Carayon was sexually abusing children in his house or at a hotel.
A probe was launched and the boys told an Indonesian teacher they had been raped or abused and sometimes given money in exchange for sex.
Carayon was arrested at Paris's Charles de Gaulle airport in 2008 while returning from Cambodia. He was released after 18 months in detention in March 2010 under a judicial review but disappeared, sparking an arrest warrant.
He was then arrested in August and detained again.

Re: Frenchman GERARD CARAYON Passed Away in Phnom Penh
That means that after the man was convicted of raping handicapped kids in his care in SEA, he did his time, and was then allowed to leave France and return to SEA ??? Don't they have a sex offenders list like they do in the USA ?
And then he dies peacefully in Cambodia ? I know he did his time, but pedophiles don't just suddenly change their preferences. That's so creepy.
Bloody hell.

He wouldn't be the first to run away from sex crimes in Indonesia/Philippines/Thailand and wash up in Cambodia, nor the last.
