Cambodia Trains Covid-19 Dog Sniffers

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

how do you train a dog to sniff covid without inherently putting the dog at risk of catching covid or carrying it unknown back to their handlers?

cdc themselves admit domesticated animals can carry the virus ...seems strange

Cambodia News (Kompong Chhnang Province): On August 2, 2021, a trial was conducted at the Kampong Chhnang Mine Action Technical Institute of CMAC (Cambodian Mine Action Centre),to examine the efficiency of the sniffer dogs being trained to detect the presence of Covid-19 in human beings.

The first group of 3 German shepherds successfully recognized the infected samples within 10-15 seconds only. The work of the second group of seven other dogs was still in progress.
The purpose of having this trial test was to prepare the dogs for Covid-19 tracking work at airports and international borders to prevent the spread of the viruses. These trained dogs were born in Cambodia and they have been trained specifically for this work.

The canine sense of smell has long fascinated me, and I wonder sometimes what it would be like to have it for a day, as a human.

Imagine being able to smell a virus.
