Kidnappers, who “dressed as COVID Doctors”, arrested

A bizarre story is emerging from the midst of the COVID-19 situation in Cambodia.


According to police sources, around 12 wannabe kidnappers disguised themselves as doctors and kidnapped a number of victims in Chamkarmon district under the pretext of “taking COVID samples”.

The suspects then attempted to ransom their victims for $30,000. However, Police soon caught up with them and arrested members of the gang on at 4 pm on March 25, 2021 at the Positano Boutique Hotel, Street 144, Village 6, Sangkat Phsar Kandal I, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh.



Police were then able to free 2 of the gang’s victims from their confinement.

Sources say that the suspects include Cambodian and Vietnamese nationals – both male and female. The suspects have been taken to Chamkarmon District Police Inspectorate for questioning.

Khmer Times has asked the authorities for more details and will add to this story as more information is received.

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On March 25, 2021, according to the collaboration of the prosecutor, Mr. Moth Dara, and lieutenant Cheav Vibol, the deputy director of the criminal department, and Mr. Yos Yotthy, the deputy governor of Khan Don Penh, the police arrested 12 suspects who pretended to be doctors in order to kidnap two victims and extorted 30,000 USD from them.


The kidnapping case took place at the Positano Boutique Hotel, on street 144, Sangkat Psar Kandal, Khan Don Penh, Phnom Penh. Before the incident, the suspects wore doctors' uniforms to pretend to take the victims to get tested for Covid-19. Then, they kidnapped two victims and extorted 30,000 USD.

After receiving the information, the police investigated and released the two victims. 12 suspects, of Chinese and Vietnamese nationality, were arrested and taken into custody.

The suspects were sent to Khan Chamkarmorn police station for case preparation.

This place just came out of 2 week lockdown for covid a week or so ago. And now this...

So we have twelve Chinese / Vietnamese holding two (Americans?) hostage in the Positano Hotel and the hotel didn't notice anything. Really? Fishy story.

Story we got from the locals was some angry chinaman finally got the shits from everyone calling him a covid carrying chink shot an american out of anger outside the hotel.

Got told about this last night as it was happening, about 8-8:30pm heard it all kicked off in the street

Where did you get the idea that the hostages are American ? A photo shows two Asian men (who have not been named.)
Very strange story. If anyone has more info, please post it.
