Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Seems to me Cambodia has done pretty good up until the latest 20 Feb outbreak since they closed the borders to tourists on 30 March 2020 (https://www.khmertimeskh.com/706863/cam ... m-tuesday/). There were a couple of other minor outbreaks in the last year and they were managed quite well.

So that has given Cambodia a lot of breathing time.. And now the vaccines are coming..

What outcomes do you think would have happened if they had NOT introduced the government measure of closing borders back in March last year?

Credits for the government for closing the borders at the end of March 2020 for those without a health certificate and putting quarantine in place. Even though those measures will have had some effect on the number of transmissions, it doesn't explain why Cambodia sailed so well.

How many infected people entered before closure? Why didn't it explode like in Wuhan, Italy, and most other places.

The coronavirus is now spreading primarily among Cambodians.

COVID-19: 37 New Infections; Tally 1,578
AKP Phnom Penh, March 19, 2021 --

Cambodia’s Ministry of Health (MoH) this morning announced the detection of 37 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19); the tally increased to 1,578.

According to the ministry’s press release, the new patients aged from 7 months to 77 years old are locally-transmitted cases. They include 31 Cambodians and 6 Chinese in Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Preah Sihanouk and Kandal.

At the same time, the MoH recorded 19 new recovered cases from COVID-19; bringing the total cured patients in the Kingdom to 917.

The newly recovered cases – 14 Chinese, 3 Cambodians, and 2 Vietnamese aged between 25 and 46 years old - are linked to the Feb. 20 Community Event. They all have been allowed to be discharged after being tested negative twice consecutively.

not a couple of chinese organised-crime hookers?

veasna duong from pasteur seems quite keen on the cambodia covid bat story, despite it being sketchy, at best
and are we sure the 'us' cdc referenced excessively here is what we expect it to be?
its called the UK variant because thats where it was discovered, like how the spanish flu is called the spanish flu, the UK variant is pretty well spread now across the world, it could have come from anywhere

Not to be an A-hole or cause a shit storm, because I understand how those of lesser minds can take something too far and use it as a justification for racism as seems to be happening in the US, but isn't it a little hypocritical that we can call something the UK variant, but not the Chinese virus? 8)

of course, but it might also be called 'framing' when used in this sensitive context

in any case, the 'facts' have changed since the original reports
though i believe they're being spun at the the very highest level
so i expect history to be a little fluid
