Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)
Re: Information on Coronavirus in Cambodia from 8 March 2020 (Latest Updates)
Further to my previous post I went to the post office today to find out if the service suspension applied to other countries. The official told me that currently there are problems with incoming mail from China, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. He was not aware that Indian services were suspended. It is not clear if services from these other countries are suspended or just slow. So it is something of a mystery why services from India are suspended and who initiated the suspension. As with everything virus related there is no rational explanation.samrong01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 5:00 pm I have been advised by my correspondent in India that all postal services are suspended to Cambodia until further notice. I do not know if this applies only to India or the whole world but I suspect it will be the whole world. For some people who depend on medicine from India this could be a death sentence.

Ahhh that's why i got mail from Europe (transiting through Thailand) sent back from Thailand to the European sender twice (lol)
Another package from Europe transited through Japan and had no issue to arrive here in Cambodia though.

Kandal province surprisingly stretches all the way to the vietnam border, armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:17 am Yesterday morning, 105 new cases were reported, 64 of them from Kandal province.
https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... recoveries
Today it is reported that all 64 of those cases in Kandal came from one quarantine centre (ex-casino), see https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50825715/q ... ed-centre/
So, that is quite encouraging in that, minus that mishap, yesterday's numbers would have been a lot less.
BTW, how can there be a casino in Kandal? How does this square with the 200km radius of PP deal with Naga?

last year at this time of year, everybody had the flu in my hotel in phnom penh. these are the cold mths in cambodia ,nobody took notice of it then, as most people dont go to hospital, but pharmacy.
The idea of everybody will be vaccined is to reduce the contagious spread of it, overwhelming the hospitals, They are trying to do that here in australia . like our prime minister stated covid will become just another flu with mass vaccination here in; other words it wont spread so fast you are always going to have flus around.covid is not some deadly disease in thailand ten years ago i had seven people in my unit and some one bought ininfluenca everybody in the house got it is covid really worse than influenca who knows .it seems so.

Last year at this time of year I rushed back to Cambodia from Thailand because the government started closing the borders for all kind of nationalities. So you're a bit off track I am afraid.garthkiddell wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 3:38 pm last year at this time of year, everybody had the flu in my hotel in phnom penh. these are the cold mths in cambodia ,nobody took notice of it then, as most people dont go to hospital, but pharmacy.

Aside from the fact Cambodia remained largely free of Covid for so long, another possibly equally strange anomaly is the lack of any kind of explosion in cases at the moment. Pretty much everywhere else, once it starts, there's no stopping it and before long, the entire country is totally overwhelmed until measures are put in place to contain it, such as enforced lock-downs.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 2:39 pm Cambodia’s New Coronavirus Cases Remain High; Tally 1,505

This doesn't appear to be the case here so far. While the daily figures are alarming, they don't appear to be increasing exponentially as would be expected. As I've said before, I'm not one for conspiracy theories unless they are backed up by more than idle gossip on an internet forum, so for the moment I'm forced to admit that, while it seems impossible to stop right now, the measures put in place to try to contain and quarantine do appear to be having a positive impact.
Of course, you can never say what would have happened had measures not been taken, we can only look at other countries for evidence of what works and what doesn't. Perhaps the long delay in Covid reaching Cambodia gave the authorities here much better preparedness, learning lessons from a years worth of outbreaks elsewhere around the world.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

Its not so strange nor particularly alarming. If you read the study from the University of Toulouse you will see that Cambodia is fortunate in having the three factors which reduce the seriousness of the virus: a hot climate, a young population, and a physically healthy population. The study incidentally also concluded that government action makes no difference - which is well supported by evidence from around the world.xandreu wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 5:14 pmAside from the fact Cambodia remained largely free of Covid for so long, another possibly equally strange anomaly is the lack of any kind of explosion in cases at the moment. "The measures being taken do appear to be having a positive impact" - Really? Where? How?
The idea that the Cambodian or any government has learned anything from experience must be your little joke surely. For example:
In previous pandemics governments learned that their best course of action was to calm fears and prevent panic. This happened in 1968 and most people were barely aware there was a pandemic even though over a million people died. This time however they have taken the opposite approach and actively promoted fear and panic resulting in massive hardship and destruction of peoples' lives. Personally I would not call this learning from experience.

PM urges against travel to stave off transmissions as Covid cases soar
Mom Kunthear | Publication date 16 March 2021 | 22:22 ICT
Prime Minister HE urged the public to refrain from non-essential travel, or wear a mask at all times otherwise, to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus which he said is circulating largely undetected.
The appeal comes as the Ministry of Health set a new one-day record for Covid-19 infections with 105 confirmed cases on March 16, all of which were linked to the February 20 community outbreak.
The latest cluster included 35 Cambodian, one Malaysian, 50 Chinese, 11 Vietnamese and eight Thai nationals, bringing the country’s third community transmission cases to 915 in less than one month.
To avoid transmission, HE said everyone must strictly follow the “three preventions and three don’ts” guideline.
He commended volunteer medical staff who sacrificed their physical and mental wellbeing in the Kingdom’s ongoing battle against Covid-19. He said their contributions were of great help in saving lives.
Health ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine also said cutting off transmission from one person to another is the biggest priority at this stage.
“How could we stop it? First, stay indoors. Phnom Penh residents should not travel to the provinces and those in the provinces should not travel to the city. When we travel, we are putting ourselves at high risk of exposure to the virus and the new Covid-19 variant is very active now,” she said.
