VN Air refund comes through -- 50 weeks later
There's hope for others.
Got a surprise email from Vietnam Airlines, saying it has processed my refund from my March 2020 return flight to Bangkok from SGN. Almost 1 year ago!
They had requested the last four digits of my credit card wayyyy back in early March 2020 to confirm I had the return airfare due me. I then completely forgot it about it as I was not expecting anything back for a long time, if anything, to be honest. And then came the email this morning.
Back then, I got warning notes from friends saying I'd better scramble out of Vung Tau and back to my Bangkok apartment before Thailand shuts the doors. So on the morning of March 16, I called to move up my VN Air return flight. The fees for the date change were eye watering, to say the least. So I planned to eat the cheapish return fare and book a fresh flight and flew out the same afternoon -- much cheaper than the date change fare. Weird but true. Or maybe not since the flight was pretty empty.
So my credit card account will get a 1965 baht/US$65 infusion. Party tonight!

I finally received my refund from KLM as well, flights cancelled March 28th 2020, refunded yesterday.... In my case it was four return tickets AMS - BKK so more substantial... The KLM were typically Dutch cheap though. Booking costs have not been refunded and so far they also refuse to reimburse the travel insurance I bought with the tickets.ExPenhMan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 3:18 pm There's hope for others.

Thai Airways customers in limbo after refunds put on hold
People whose flights were cancelled by beleaguered airline face three-month wait over payment decision

Thousands of passengers who had flights cancelled last year by Thai Airways will have to wait another three months to discover whether they will be refunded or have lost their money.
The airline has faced financial problems since last spring, leaving a trail of passengers who had flights cancelled waiting for refunds. Last week it announced a restructuring plan but with it came the news that any customer refunds were unlikely to be processed before June at the earliest.
Some passengers have been waiting almost a year to get their money back from the Thai national carrier, which continues to take new bookings.
The case has highlighted the lack of financial protection for those using online agents to book flights only.
Customers who had booked flights and accommodation from an agent were protected by the package holiday rules, as were those who bought flights directly from the Thai Airways website and paid by credit card.
However, those who used an online travel agent to book flights but organised their accommodation separately will have to claim on their travel insurance – and will be successful only if they bought one of the 50% of policies that pay out in such circumstances.

Yep! I have just entered my 12th month of waiting for the AUD$1,800 refund owed me from Thai Airways International -TG.
Airfares should be held in a trust account in the country of departure/ticket booking/country of the TG Office at which you purchased your ticket, in my view.

Re: VN Air refund comes through -- 50 weeks later
Vietnam Airlines is one of my favorite airlines.
Re: VN Air refund comes through -- 50 weeks later
One of mine too. I abandoned VietLate after multiple late departures and arrivals, late gate assignments (always), borderline cabin safety standards, really crappy seats for a 6-footer (185 cm), and the annoying wait in the steamy airside bus to the plane/gate. So I spend the extra million VND/US$40 or so to depart and arrive on time, luggage included in the fare, with a nice dollop of professional service. Not to forget the VN Air flight web site that works far better than the junky VietJet site.

Hahaha make a claim with your travel insurance, good luck with that, the pandemic excuse will come out,
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

I am awaiting a refund by the ever incompetent Philippines Airlines from December 2019. I have been assured that it will be with me before mid-April. Absolute shambles.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 11:23 am Yep! I have just entered my 12th month of waiting for the AUD$1,800 refund owed me from Thai Airways International -TG.
