Senate adopts COVID-19 measures draft law

The Senate has adopted draft law on “Measures to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 and other Deadly and Serious Infectious Diseases” in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Kingdom.

Senate spokesman Mam Bun Neang said 39 senators voted in favour of the draft law in an extraordinary session this morning.

He said that the session was presided over by Sim Ka, acting president of the senate.

He added that the law, which comprises six chapters and 18 articles, aimed at combating and preventing the spread of COVID-19 as well as more imposing of severe penalties, including imprisonment for those who flout the preventive measures and cause disease infections in the community.

The draft law was approved by the National Assembly on March 5 and it is expected to be signed by acting Head of State Say Chhum soon.
