Senate adopts COVID-19 measures draft law
The Senate has adopted draft law on “Measures to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 and other Deadly and Serious Infectious Diseases” in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Kingdom.
Senate spokesman Mam Bun Neang said 39 senators voted in favour of the draft law in an extraordinary session this morning.
He said that the session was presided over by Sim Ka, acting president of the senate.
He added that the law, which comprises six chapters and 18 articles, aimed at combating and preventing the spread of COVID-19 as well as more imposing of severe penalties, including imprisonment for those who flout the preventive measures and cause disease infections in the community.
The draft law was approved by the National Assembly on March 5 and it is expected to be signed by acting Head of State Say Chhum soon.

Cambodia Registers First Coronavirus-Related Death
AKP Phnom Penh, March 11, 2021 --
The first ever death case due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Cambodia was announced this afternoon by the Ministry of Health.
According to the announcement, the victim is a 50-year-old Cambodian man. He passed away this morning, at 10:40 at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh.
He lives in Sangkat Chak Angre, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh, it pointed out, adding that he is the driver of an infected Chinese national in Preah Sihanouk province. He was tested positive for the deadly virus on Feb. 27, 2021.

Meanwhile, the ministry reported 39 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 aged from 18 to 77 years old. They are all linked to the Feb. 20 incident. They include 28 Cambodians, 7 Chinese, 3 Vietnamese, and a Korean in Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kandal, Prey Veng and Battambang.
Cambodia’s tally now rose to 1,163, of which 652 are locally-transmitted cases from the Feb. 20 Community Event, the current cluster infections in Cambodia.

On another thread, a taxi carrying Chinese nationals from Sihanoukville was stopped by police in Phnom Penh last night. They are suspected of having the Covid-19 virus.

Kep requires new arrivals from COVID-stricken city/provinces to be tested for COVID-19 and quarantined
People from the cities and province linked to the February 20 event from today onwards will be required to test for COVID-19 and stay in quarantine for 14 days when they arrive in the coastal province of Kep.
The decision was announced today by Kep governor Som Piseth, as the country is trying to curb the third wave of COVID-19 community infection, which so far seen 652 positive cases and one death.
“The people who come to Kep from the capital, city and provinces, which are experiencing a severe community spread will have to be quarantined for 14 days and will be tested for COVID-19.”
While Kep, the smallest province in Kingdom, has not found any COVID-19 case related to the February 20 even, Phnom Penh and other 8 provinces, namely Kandal, Sihanoukville, Prey Veng, Svay Reang, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Battambang, and Siem Reap, have been affected, with many areas already put under lockdown.
