A military major.

Supposedly shoot out with police while trying to rob a house. All 4 criminals dead.

This has been all over the local news for past two days so surprised it took a while to make it here. Apparently they're denying he was a member of the military,

And his family has disowned his dead body ? Wow. That's severe.

Separately, the bodies of the three other suspects, including one who was the ringleader named Im Sovannarith, did not have a family to conduct a funeral ceremony.

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): Following the case of the botched kidnapping and robbery in Borey Angkor Phnom Penh, at around 11 am on March 1, 2021, the authorities continued to search and have identified the four criminals as follows:

* First: Im Sovanrith, the mastermind of the AK47 rifle, was born on 28-10-1999
* Second: Name: Ry Pisey, holding a Zoraki pistol, born on October 27, 1991
* Third: Mov Phanith was born on October 27, 1998
* 4th: Ron Phearun, holding a CZ P09 pistol, born in 2000
In addition to the three firearms, the perpetrators also had two pairs of handcuffs, some scotch tape, and a rope for kidnapping and robbery.


On March 2, 2021, the specialized force of the Criminal Office of the Royal Gendarmerie of Phnom Penh, in cooperation with the specialized force of the Military Base of Khan Sen Sok, and in cooperation with the landlord and the local authority, searched the rented room of Im Sovannarith. They found some illegal materials, including:
1. One M16 rifle
2. 16 rounds of ammunition
3. 1 K54 handgun case and
4. Personal property belonging to previous victims

He couldn’t have done much damage with that collection of junk? An M16 rifle but no magazine or ammo for it, a pistol holster but no pistol, and what appears to be 2 types of miscellaneous ammo (not .223) but no weapons to suit them.

That was what was left behind, you gotta feel for the guy who went in unarmed. He must have drawn he short straw.

This guy is wild, he was 21 and quite scrawny. On his Facebook page their are loads of pictures of him with BHQ uniform and various military and civilian cars,often him driving a smaller Lexus. Yet the BHQ has according to some reports denied he was in them and other reports say he was previously? A major? At 21?

That's what I was saying. His Facebook is a treasure trove of weirdness, self-absorption and a obsession with looking rich. You can tell he was a young guy who was desperate to "look the part". Cars, rings and so on... Perhaps a combination of growing up with social media, a culture which generally likes showing off possessions and local nepotism gave him a sort of bizarre eagerness to get ahead as fast as possible or something. Looking at where he actually lived paints a vastly different picture. This would be a good lesson for kids to see that what you see on social media isn't always true, so one shouldn't attempt to mimic others or feel too depressed at not having the picture perfect life some attempt to portray.
