February 20, 2021, Covid Community Outbreak (Koh Pich and Beyond)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

That includes 6 positives arriving from China. Funny that, I thought they were all tested prior to travel.

Looking at the nationalities, it's now out of the Chinese community and getting about a bit.

Of the 58 COVID-19 positive cases involving the February 20 Community Event, 41 were Chinese, nine Vietnamese, five Cambodians, one Korean, one Singaporean and one Japanese, according to the Ministry of Health.

I wonder how many hospital beds they have available here? They currently have 217 patients in there isolation units and that number is set to grow. I think we might be about to find out.

The better question never asked in these cases is how many of them are sick, rather than just positive?

NOTE: The six Chinese positive cases in Sihanoukvillle were tested before getting flights BACK TO China. China's policy of mandatory testing and health certicates before flights has revealed a number of Chinese living in Cambodia who are positive but apparently asymptomatic.
From AKP:
Furthermore, 7 other infections were found on passengers from abroad. They are a 65-year-old Cambodian peacekeeper returning from a UN mission in Africa on Feb. 21, and 6 Chinese nationals living in Preah Sihanouk province. The latters were found positive for COVID-19 when they applied for a health certificate in order to return to their home country.

Although I know where you coming from with that question, the answer doesn’t really matter. Even if they are not showing symptoms (are not “sick”) they are still shedding the virus and can potentially infect others. Whether the ratio asymptomatic/sick is 90/10, 50/50, 10/90 doesn’t matter.

Also, I know a guy who tested positive on arrival here back in October. He wasn’t sick, but he still was forced to stay in the hospital until he successively tested negative a few times. In his case this was a few weeks.

If they aren't showing symptoms they will need to be kept isolated but won't need to be in an ICU.

In the UK 86% of positive tested people didn’t have any symptoms

The Ministry of Health team is now searching the rest of the club staffs to be tested this morning.
The police in the district cooperated with the Ministry of Health to carry out work, and Koh Pich is closed and some road sections around the affected building have been blocked.
No.16 must have escaped, her name's a dead give away. Hope she was caught red handed (or red bodied!)

Here's a map of locations. Not completely up to date but still pretty concerning:
