Can I cross the border and quarantine in Poipet?
Re: Can I cross the border and quarantine in Poipet?
I would strongly advise you to wait then until land borders reopen, highly unlikely you will gain approval to enter Cambodia via land border based on a fear of flying, but hey, there's no harm in trying. Good luck.chrisjones wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:15 pm I suffer from bipolar disorder well controlled with medication and have severe anxiety about flying. Yes I flew most of the way to Thailand but I was medicated for that and my wife flew with me and helped a great deal because I still had outbursts on the flight. We are no longer together I will come to Cambodia alone.

Is that what you think about people with mental illness John, they should be locked on a chain under the house? I won’t even dignify that with a response.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:55 pmDude, stay in Thailand for fucks' sake. There are much better medical facilities there. The Cambodian mental health system consists of some dubious "rehabilitation" centers packed with beggars, streetwalkers, druggies and neer-do-wells. Or just the streets, normal prison, or in the best case having a family who cares enough about you to keep you locked on a chain under the house. I'm not even joking.chrisjones wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:15 pmThat’s an unfair comment how could I get a letter from a doctor if I just couldn’t afford to fly?PSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 6:55 pm Yes, there are quarantine centres in the border towns, extremely basic makeshift facilities.
You need approval from both countries relevant Ministries...Health, Foreign Affairs and Immigration Departments. Not a simple task, but possible.... whether a doctors not would cut it though I highly doubt.
But c'mon, be honest, you just can't afford the flights right, nothing to do with a medical condition?

chrisjones, to be honest john gave you what is a true answer, and because of the fact that the Cambodian medical care is very limited for people with mental health problems, that is what does happen in this country, the family have no choice in taking care, and for the person who may have the mentioned illness, the results are they maybe chained for their own safety, or even that of others.chrisjones wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 11:46 pmIs that what you think about people with mental illness John, they should be locked on a chain under the house? Always "hope" but never "expect".

Chris, as mentioned above, JB is not expressing his own views or condoning the practices he mentioned, he is simply explaining the stark reality of what passes for treatment of mental illness in Cambodia. BTW, have you established that you will be able to obtain supplies of your medication here, genuine not counterfeit? Have you thought about how to get any support should you be unlucky enough with your condition to need help? Will your medical insurance cover costs related to this, assuming you have informed them of this condition? Trust me, without some kind of network of friends or family, this is not a place to have serious health problems of any kind, especially if not insuredchrisjones wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 11:46 pmIs that what you think about people with mental illness John, they should be locked on a chain under the house? Another comment about money.
I’m not asking for advice about money and insurance. I earn my own money and I buy real medications from pharmacies not counterfeit drugs like fake Viagra.

Are you having an episode now or is this your normal attitude on a good day?
Stay where you are, Cambodia has a habit of chewing people up and spitting them.

Most expats here have serious mental health issues from my observation. Welcome to La-La Land, you should be just fine. Definitely check that you can get your meds from a pharmacy and you should be fine once in the country, never mind the naysayers. Probably won't have much luck with the land border atm tho.
