Tuol Porn Taley Boeung Sne Conservation Area in Prey Veng is Rezoned
Without jumping to conclusions, in Cambodia, rezoning protected conservation areas as apt for multiple use is not good news for the environment. It is reasonable to assume that there are future plans for some sort of development in the area.
One previous example of rezoning a wildlife sanctuary is discussed here: newsworthy/australian-gold-mine-granted ... 24674.html

The decision was reflected in a sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE on Feb. 5 and released to the media recently.
The Tuol Porn Taley Boeung Sne area encompasses a total land surface of 3,557 hectares in Prey Veng provincial city and the districts of Svay Antor, Peam Ro, and Ba Phnom.
The enlisting of the area aims primarily to better protect the environment, biodiversity as well as natural resources there for sustainable use.
Once formalised, the Tuol Porn Taley Boeung Sne multiple use area will be under the management of the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions, Prey Veng provincial administration, and local communities concerned.

Buth Sela / Khmer Times
“Love Lake”, also known as the Boeng Sne and Poantaley area, has now been listed as a multi-use site over multiple districts in Prey Veng province in order to protect and develop the area.
The government has issued a sub-decree to declare the Boeng Sne and Poantaley area a multi-use natural site that will benefit local people and the surrounding area by promoting eco-tourism.
According to the sub-decree issued on February 5, published on the Ministry of Environment’s Facebook page and signed by Prime Minister HE, its purpose is to ensure the preservation and protection of the natural aesthetics, ecosystems, biodiversity, environment and culture of “Love Lake”.
It said it will help to maintain a stable environment, protect and conserve natural resources for all generations and increase and ensure the wise use of wetlands, while helping the area provide natural products and services for sustainable use.
It added that it will promote the participation of local communities and the public in contributing to the management, protection and conservation of biodiversity and natural resources in the multi-use site.
The sub-decree states that the Ministry of Environment has the authority to organise and manage the “Love Lake” area in collaboration with the relevant ministries and institutions to ensure environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in accordance with the provisions of the law.
