Powerful 7.3 Earthquake off the Coast of Fukushima, Japan

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

On Saturday evening , an earthquake took place, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3. Although the magnitude of the earthquake was a powerful one of magnitude 7 ( M7), no damage was caused, and no tsunami warning was provided.

The epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of Fukushima prefecture at a depth of 60 km.

The quake struck at 11:08 p.m. local time and it shook buildings in the capital. No anomalies were found at the Tokaimura nuclear plant, according to Japan's public broadcaster NHK. The National Weather Service stated no tsunami warning was issued.

The earthquake occurred just weeks before the 10-year anniversary of the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami that ravaged northeast Japan and caused the worst nuclear disaster in a quarter of a century.

Japan experiences more than 20% of the world's earthquakes exceeding magnitude 6.
