It's going to get crowded in Thailand's prisons.

Being in Prison even in the best of times is a nightmare. Foreigners that experienced the "Bangkok Hilton" are traumatized for the rest of their life.

An example from British Backpacker:
The nightmare began after Payne left home in Castleford four months ago for a backpacking trip to Thailand and Australia. She wanted to travel after splitting up with her fiancé and reading The Beach, the bestselling novel by Alex Garland - now a film - about backpacking adventures in Thailand.

She used the money saved for her wedding to fund the trip. But instead of lazing on exotic beaches, she found herself crammed into a cell with 24 other prisoners in the notorious 'Bangkok Hilton', the rat-infested women's jail in the Thai capital where violence among inmates is rife and suicides are commonplace.

most of the time when a farang is bailed out of jail with the lawyers help, it is assumed he/she will get out of the country asap

I don’t get what you want to get at.

Your headline reads about the Thai prisons potentially getting crowded imminently, with a fleeting reference to crackdowns on protesters there. ...and then you drift off towards a two decades old Story about a Brit back packer, along with references which occupy the majority of your post.

With age can come a little distraction. Maybe a pretty girl walked past the window as you were preparing your sermon. It happens to us all. Especially with girls, and the efforts of puberty to divert our attention. I think the last time I had a coherent thought translate accurately into words in the presence of a pretty girl was about 4and a bit decades ago...

Thai prisons are already overcrowded, and have been for a long time. Nothing to do with cracking down on protesters when you look at the big picture, but with doling out insane prison terms to perfectly harmless, nonviolent druggies.
