Dhole (Rare Indigenous Wild Dog) Found in the Cardamoms
Dhole Found in Cardamom Mountains
AKP Phnom Penh, January 19, 2021 --
Dhole (Cuon alpinus) listed as a globally endangered species by the IUCN has been found living in the Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia.
The good news was shared yesterday by the Wildlife Alliance Cambodia in a press release.
Dhole is a species of wild dog that has declined dramatically across its extensive range, and it is now a globally endangered species with fewer than 2,500 mature individuals remaining, as explained in the release.
Their presence in the Cardamom Mountains indicates the effective environmental conservation effort by the Government of Cambodia in the area, allowing the increase of the rare wild animal population.

Plenty more information on the dhole here:The dhole is a highly social animal, living in large clans without rigid dominance hierarchies and containing multiple breeding females. Such clans usually consist of about 12 individuals, but groups of over 40 are known. It is a diurnal pack hunter which preferentially targets medium- and large-sized ungulates. In tropical forests, the dhole competes with tiger and leopard, targeting somewhat different prey species, but still with substantial dietary overlap.
It is listed as Endangered by the IUCN as populations are decreasing and are estimated at fewer than 2,500 adults. Factors contributing to this decline include habitat loss, loss of prey, competition with other species, persecution due to livestock predation and disease transfer from domestic dogs.

Surprised they are still around!
The greatest threat to the Australian Dingo is breeding them out with other breeds (domestic dogs gone wild).
