Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

So now it starts here for real, it could blow over, but in harsh reality here we could see a countrywide spread of covid19, the virus that so far Cambodia has avoided in its so-called prevention, but once more it's the people that won't listen and follow the precautions laid down by its government and health authorities.

No mention of the expat community, what and when will be in store for ourselves. Will and when will we be offered a vaccine?

Looks like street 172. Why don't they take their passport away when they serve the quarantine period.

No and never.

Unless there is a lot of spare vaccines and not unless you pay a lot for it. And it might be a fake as well.

No and never! I understand it's the Kingdom of Wonder but, there should be an action plan for it's resident forginers in the country, would you think not? If no news comes soon, what is our answer! Our countries embassies, to find out what is our position. For one I don't fancy 2 pricks in the arm of a vaccine that has not been credited by the WHO. But what if you are not allowed to travel by air if you don't take the opportunity that may be given too yourself. Or in fact it could be that it is made compulsory just too stay here. It could work out to be that of a very tricky and possibly that of a very expensive situation, or am I looking too deeply at this developing?

They do. Passport is kept by Immigration when you go through passport control. It is not returned to you until released from quarantine. The passports are delivered to the quarantine facility/hotel once 2nd test results are confirmed negative.

Thank you for the information, the reason would clearly be that you could not do what the guy actually did. Abscond quarantine and possibly book into an hotel without a passport.

He probably needed a "fix" and didn't give a shit about his passport (also possible that he has both a Cambodian and a US passport). Many cheap hotels and guesthouses will still check people in without a passport/ID, especially Cambodians.

Well done to the authorities for managing to track him down so quickly.
