Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

If you desire to visit Thailand, its not that hard to get a visa.
just lots of hoops to jump thru ( not to mention 15 days in prison on arrival)

By 2022 vaccines will be required to get on an airplane, ( just wondering if they will be required one day to extend ur extensions)

As to vaccines and pregnant women, wont happen for years!!

Travel will go on, it just wont be the same, after 1 year or so your going to have millions of people ready to take a vacation.. SE Asia will be ready to welcome them

Say what you want, but the thai's were doing a great job up until mid dec, than they let their guard down before the holidays, now their paying the price

What's the number of recent deaths, three?

Looks like have little more than a bunch of people testing positive... Worldometer says Thailand has NO (ZERO) new deaths today and 1 (ONE) serious/critical case. :chin:

Do I really have to explain that a vaccine that has not been properly tested for its effect on pregnancy could be unsafe for any female between the ages of 1 to about 40. Because they may wish to get pregnant in future? Take it at your own risk.

Thailand came up with another way to benefit off of covid
I Knew it was coming, Tests needed to extend visas/extensions
wait for it .......once vaccines are available those too will be needed to stay in LOS

According to Richard Barrow via FB, who is usually right on things
IMPORTANT: According to this document published in the Royal Gazette, the Immigration law for Section 12 (4) and Section 44 (2) has been changed to include the need for the foreigners to have a #COVID19 test done in order to stay in #Thailand.

This was published in the Royal Gazette on 25th December 2020. The part that is underlined says it will become law 30 days later. So, that is then 25th January 2021. The week after next. I’ve already had someone tell me that they were told by their local Immigration that they need to do a COVID test before they come in on Monday to extend their stay. This is not correct as it doesn’t start until 25th January. If they try to do that then show them this document.

As usual, not everything is clear yet. From what I understand (and to be transparent here, there has been no announcement by Immigration yet), this is for everyone who is entering Thailand and for everyone already here and need to extend their stay. It is also needed for those people who are applying for residency. The document doesn’t say how far in advance you need to get the COVID test done. And as these are not cheap, who will pay? You or your employer

🖊 The need for a COVID test are being added to the following in the Immigration Act:

👉 SECTION 12 Aliens falling into any of the following categories are excluded from entering the Kingdom (4) Being of unsound mind or having any of the diseases as prescribed in the Ministerial Regulations
👉 SECTION 44 No alien shall take up residency in the Kingdom, if (2) it appears that such alien is unable to earn own living because of physical infirmity or mental defect or having any diseases as prescribed in the Ministerial Regulations.

this does not sound good for reopening quarantine free..>> before i had read they would start in May/june
BUT at what point is it safe?

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced on Sunday that Thailand will not start COVID-19 vaccination of Thai people until it is proved to be safe.
In his Facebook post today, the prime minister referred to reports of serious negative side effects suffered by some people who were given the vaccinations, saying that he has to wait for information from the experts about whether the complications were caused by the vaccines or by other factors, such as poor health or the ages of those inoculated, or whether the side effects are, in fact, acceptable.

“For Thai people, I decided not to take the risk and will not rush to inoculate with vaccines which have not been fully tested and will not let Thai people become guinea pigs,” said the prime minister.

He said that the National Vaccine Committee will advise the government and closely supervise the use of COVID-19 vaccines in the country.

seems the Cambodians will do this for the Chinese vaccine :beer1:

Thailand adds 374 Covid cases Sunday, mostly in S.Sakhon
updated: 17 Jan 2021 at 21:20
Thailand on Sunday recorded 374 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to date to 12,054. No new deaths were reported, leaving the accumulated total at 70.

Of the 374 new cases, 321 -- including 311 foreign nationals -- were found by active case-finding, mostly in Samut Sakhon. A further 43 cases were local transmissions found via the normal health system, and 10 new patients were recent arrivals from abroad.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the 43 new local infections were from Samut Sakhon (24 cases), Bangkok (10), two each from Ang Thong, Khon Kaen and Nonthaburi and one each from Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri and Tak.

The number of provinces recording Covid-19 infections during this second wave rose to 61 as three new cases were found in Phatthalung during active testing. Only 16 provinces have been left untouched.

The cases in Phatthalung were two Myanmar workers and one Lao labourer. They were sent to Bang Kaeo Hospital in Bang Kaeo district for treatment, according to the CCSA.

In Trang, two male Myanmar nationals working in a rubber processing factory were found to have the virus during active case-finding.

CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said authorities are tracing their recent movements in order to identify those they may have infected.

More cases could be reported as public health authorities conduct tests in factories in many provinces, he added.

Here's a good, detailed story from Thai Inquirer.

The private hospitals in Thailand are complaining about long government approval processes for vaccines. It's looking like the early available vaccines will only be the ones from China.

They also point out Thailand is late and way down the long lineup of nations trying to buy the most desirable vaccines.
According to the sources, Thailand is weeks away from approving private purchase of the Chinese Sinovacs vaccine and months away from approving the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for distribution among the public.

The slow response to vaccine approval has been a growing source of frustration and concern for the medical community with companies unable to import or distribute vaccines.

Private hospitals that are looking to procure vaccines include the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services group, the Bangkok Chain Hospital (BCH) group, the Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG), Bumrungrad International Hospital and Vibhavadi Hospital.
And no surprise:

A source at Bangkok Dusit Medical Services told Thai Enquirer:
The truth is, people coming to private hospitals want the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines and not the Chinese ones or the locally produced ones,” said the source who asked not to be name.

“But at the current pace of approvals, that means we will not see the vaccine until mid-year at the earliest. Which means we take a risk in pre-ordering the vaccine now.”

I hate to admit it an am sad about it, but i cant see how things will get any better for the next 6 months ++
Cant see tourism resuming till this oct at the earliest. Meanwhile anyone in the tourism sector will not survive another 8 months ++ 2-5% of tourists arrivals from 2019

Thailand is “months away” from privately distributed vaccines despite millions of orders
Reports this week that Thailand’s private hospitals have ordered millions of doses of coronavirus vaccines are unlikely to factor in the short term because of government regulations, multiple sources told Thai Enquirer on Tuesday.

According to the sources, Thailand is weeks away from approving private purchase of the Chinese Sinovacs vaccine and months away from approving the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for distribution among the public.

While the private hospitals have outwardly showed a willingness to comply with government regulations and the approval process, there is growing frustration inside the hospitals over the perceived sluggishness of the government.

A source at Bangkok Dusit Medical Services told Thai Enquirer that the company has been hamstrung by the prospect of waiting months for regulatory approval for certain vaccines.

“The truth is, people coming to private hospitals want the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines and not the Chinese ones or the locally produced ones,” said the source who asked not to be name.

“But at the current pace of approvals, that means we will not see the vaccine until mid-year at the earliest. Which means we take a risk in pre-ordering the vaccine now.”
---
The concerns that some vaccines may not be approved were furthered this week after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha posted on his social media page on Sunday that he will not risk vaccinating Thai people with a vaccine that has not been properly tested.

“For Thai people, I decided not to take that risk,” he said.

Prayut was referring to countries that were already injecting its citizens with vaccines “that might not have been thoroughly tested for safety.” We will not be a country that experiments on its citizens, the prime minister said.
