depositing a stimulus check......
I tried depositing my stimulus check into my Canadia bank account but they told me they no longer accept foreign checks of any kind. Is there any bank in Phnom Penh where I could open an account and then deposit the stimulus check? It is not an emergency or anything like that.
Re: depositing a stimulus check......
Unless you are planning a trip to the USA, my suggestion would be to frame it and display it on your wall. In 20 years time it might be worth a lot of money.
Back in the "old days" (1990s) when I lived in Bahrain I received a cheque for $20 from my mother in New Zealand for a birthday present. My mother's grasp of geography was a little hazy. I did not have a clue what to do with it as I knew that even if a bank accepted it they would take at least 6 weeks to verify the signature and charge around $25 to cash it. Out of curiosity I brought it down to the local money exchange. In the 1990s there were plenty of these exchanges to help poor workers send money back to their home countries for very small fees. They have now been eliminated because of "terrorism". Anyway they looked at my cheque and immediately gave me the money with no fee and no questions. I was astounded. Those were the days of freedom before the corporations and banks controlled everything.
