Woman and Two Girls Stabbed in Drinking Buddy Rampage
Cambodia News (Kandal): On January 5, 2021, at 8 pm, a woman and her two daughters were victims of a knife attack by her husband's drinking buddy in Kean Svay district, Kandal. The suspect was angry with the woman who tried to stop him from drinking at her house, so he attacked the victim and her daughters while her husband went outside to buy more drink.
On the incident night, the victim's husband, a construction worker, asked his friend to come to his house to drink. The wife wasn't happy about this, so she tried to stop them from drinking. The suspect was angry with her, and when the victim's husband went outside to get more drink, the suspect used a knife to chop the victim and her two daughters and then ran away to escape. The victims were sent to the hospital.
The victims were identified as Sok Chandy, a 32-year-old woman, and her daughter, Reasmey Sreyya, 13 years old, and Reasmey Soujing, 8 years old.
However, in this case, local people suspect that it may have involved a robbery because the victim's house was messed up as if it had been searched. They say that it is possible that the woman caught the man searching to steal stuff in the house, so he used a knife to attack the victim and the two kids.
The suspect, Chorn Sovannchankosal, 29 years old, a construction worker, who lives on a construction site in Phnom Penh. The police have confirmed that the identity of the suspect is known, because the victim's husband and the suspect were related, and they also work at the construction site together. The police are searching for the suspect to punish by legal action.

I can't tell if there's been an uptick in such violent cases recently, or whether there are a lot in general here.

Me too. Hard to know if more cases are being reported, or if the amount of violent crime is increasing. I do think the level of violent crime is up a notch in the last year and that the criminals are more agressive, but that's only my impression.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 8:08 pm I can't tell if there's been an uptick in such violent cases recently, or whether there are a lot in general here.

Re: Woman and Two Girls Stabbed in Drinking Buddy Rampage
I agree that it's hard to tell. I remember when I was first here being quite shocked at the abbreviated accounts of dreadful violence around the country. In my first days here there was a story about a guy I was supposed to meet being put in jail over an argument, then a story about a guy who thought the millennium bug was a real metal bug that would descend on Dec 31st and kill everyone unless they ate a special banana cake. That resulted in two deaths. Then there was the guy who got annoyed because his friends refused to drink more wine so he threw a grenade at them but not very far so he killed them and fucked himself up badly too. So there may have been a lull in these reports, but they aren't anything new. The only guns you see villagers getting arrested with now are old rusty heaps of shit with one bullet or zip guns or air guns so they tend to involve meat cleavers and machetes more than military grade weapons nowadays though. I do believe that increased stress due to economic problems has been fueling more domestic disputes, that's inevitable. The dynamics of relationships here is another thing to consider. Many people run their homes like tyrants.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 9:05 pmMe too. Hard to know if more cases are being reported, or if the amount of violent crime is increasing.
