Moving back to Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Going downhill for me since 2000. 8-)
I still like it a lot but the development is very messy in a lot of areas. Haven't been since mid 2019 but there were too many construction sites and derelict hotels. Some parts of the center are pretty enough and the surroundings can be very pleasant.

The invasion of the Chinese is really all rumours at the moment. There is speculation that they will be given large tracts of Apsara land near Angkor Wat to build some kind of Entertainment City. Who knows what will happen.

I remember pub street beeing a modest stretch of dirt road with only a handful of bars around 2002/2003. You could still rent motorbikes back then and explore the beauties of the temples on your own without paying a cent. in the evening you would wash down the dirt in your lungs in one of the few bars (I remember Red Piano and Angkor What ? beeing one of the first bars to be on pub street).

Seeing posts like this make sad, shit how developed and fast-moving the world is now, I just want to chill in a bar on a beach where time has stopped. Depressing!

those bamboo huts on the beach move once replaced by the concrete ones. Its just a matter of finding them and NOT tell everybody where they are. They do still exist..but halftime has become shorter due to our mania of posting/blogging and other "social" media influence unfolding the secret beauty of a that chilled new place. Its usually the backpackers who come first and create the firts demand.

Yeah still some slices of heaven to find, just getting towards the end of it all I fear.

C'est la vie

I didn't leave PP because I hate the place, I left because a relationship ended and I needed to get some space between me and that situation. I've had enough space and now I want to dance :)
